AIL Roundup: Division 2B Week 9

In 2B Wanderers leapfrog Harlequins into fourth spot, bonus points helping them despite the one point loss to Greystones, who themselves remain unbeaten, while Galwegians picked up their first win of the season.

Sligo 7-24 Galway Corinthians, Hamilton Park (Strandhill)

Galway Corinthians continued their title challenge with an emphatic Connacht derby win over Sligo.

The started proceedings in emphatic fashion, with John Forde and John Devine crossing in quick succession for a 10-0 lead. Euan Brown responded for Sligo with a converted try he touched down in the corner to put three between them at the interval.

Corinthians went from strength to strength in the second half, Devine would get his second to put the visitors 17-7 ahead, before Logan Allen crossed for a bonus point try to wrap up proceedings.

Galwegians 41-18 Enniscorthy, Crowley Park

Galwegians picked up their first win of the season as they cruised to victory over bottom placed Enniscorthy.

Wegians were over after three minutes, Ben McGuinness finishing off a lineout maul, giving them a 5-0 lead as the conversion missed the mark. Nick Doyle replied for Scorthy four minutes later on the counter to tie proceedings. 

Shayne Bolton finished off a break ten minutes later to put Wegians 12-5 to the good, but a penalty minutes later reduced their lead to 12-8. Two further tries got the bonus point secured while also leaving the score 24-8 at the break.

They kept on top with a fifth try after the restart to extend the lead out to 31-8, Angelo Todisco got Scorthy in the board in the second half with a try to leave 23 points between them as the conversion missed, Doyle got his second and the Wexford sides third try to leave it 31-18 after 66 minutes.

The Galway side finished well on home soil, Shane Mallon with another try for the fourth consecutive game, before he added a second in time added on to complete a dominant showing.

Greystones 20-19 Wanderers, Dr Hickey Park

Greystones remain unbeaten in nine straight games as a late penalty saved their blushes at the weekend.

The visitors had cruises in the opening half leading 16-5 by the interval, Greystones put another five on the board after the restart with a yellow card changing the fate of the home side, they were ahead 19-10 by that stage but a converted Greystones try had it as a two point game. Right at the death the hosts would take the win, Wanderers putting in a valiant effort one the leaders will look back on for sure.
