AIL Roundup: Division 1B Week 15

City of Armagh strengthened their hold on top spot in division 1B with a commanding victory over St Mary’s College that moved them four points clear at the top. At the other end of the table, just nine points separate eighth place UCC and bottom side Malone, with Banbridge sandwiches in between.

The table toppers continue to lead the way but were pushed hard by St Mary’s College whose losing bonus point leaves them in sixth place.

Ulster squad member Michael McDonald led the scoring for Armagh with three penalties and converted both the home side’s tries from John Glasgow and Paul Mullen.

Highfield 21-16 Old Wesley, Woodleigh Park

Miah Cronin was the standout player for Highfield as they edged an entertaining encounter to move up to fourth while Old Wesley drop one place below in fifth.

Malone 32-17 Naas, Gibson Park

Ulster player Angus Curtis scored two tries for bottom side Malone who collected what could be a vital five points from their victory, while Naas fall to seventh following a disappointing display.

Old Belvedere 34-7 Buccaneers, Ollie Campbell Park

The second place side ran out comfortable winners courtesy of tries by All Belvo, Brian Lennox and Tom Mulcair’s brace to keep the pressure on top spot.

Buccaneers went away pointless and dropped to third.

UCC 46-34 Banbridge, The Mardyke

Robin Sinton, Neil Kilpatrick, Adam Doherty and Peter Cromie picked up the touchdowns for Bann while James Humphreys converted all four and slotted two penalties.It wasn’t enough as UCC secured victory to move up to eighth with Mark Bisesaar, Harry Spooch and Matt O’Callaghan amongst the try scorers.
