AIL Preview: Division 2B Week 3

2B is proving to be one of the most interesting divisions so far this season. Who’s 100% record will go when table toppers Galway Corinthians and Greystones do battle in the west.

Galway Corinthians V Greystones, Saturday Oct 15th, Corinthian Park, 2:30pm

Where else would we start, this is clearly the game of the round in this division this weekend.

Neither side has made a mistake yet. They both were in the playoffs last season and if you were to put money on it at this early stage, they’d both be a safe bet to do the same this time around. The hosts hammered neighbours Galwegians 21-58 last week. They beat division newcomers Rainey Old Boys in round one.

Stones have become known for starting seasons well and this time is no different. They have had to work very hard for their wins against Dungannon and Enniscorthy in the last two rounds. Who will come out on top in this clash?

Belfast Harlequins V Galwegians, Saturday Oct 15th, Deramore Park, 2:30pm

Belfast Harlequins welcome a struggling Galwegians on Saturday afternoon.

The Harlequins are another unbeaten team. They have taken nine of the possible ten points available, currently sitting behind the above pacesetters in third. They’ll be fairly confident they can make it three wins from three heading into the break.

It has been a very difficult start to the league for the Galway team. Their yet to pick up any points and it’s going to be hard for them to get anything in Belfast.

Dungannon V Wanderers, Saturday Oct 15th, Stevenson Park, 2:30pm

Wanderers make the trip to Co. Tyrone to play Dungannon in what should be a competitive fixture.

The hosts are coming off the back of a disappointing defeat away to Greystones last week. They won their first game of the season at home against Galwegians, so they’ll want a similar home performance again.

Wanderers bounced back from their opening day 17-14 defeat to Malahide by putting on a convincing display to beat league newsboys Enniscorthy 38-22 last week. They’re a team that looked very good in pre-season and they might keep improving.

Malahide V Enniscorthy, Saturday Oct 15th, Estuary Road, 2:30pm

Not so long ago these teams were applying their trade down in the Leinster League, but now they find themselves meeting in the AIL.

Malahide have been very competitive in both their games so far, coming out the right side of the result in round one against Wanderers and narrowly losing out vs Sligo last time out. Could they be dark horses this season?

It’s been a baptism of fire for Enniscorthy in 2B so far. They’re yet to get going, suffering heavy defeats to Greystones and Wanderers in their most recent games. Can they get some points before the next block of fixtures.

Sligo V Rainey Old Boys, Saturday Oct 15th, Hamilton Park (Strandhill), 2:30pm

Sligo host Rainey Old Boys this weekend.

Sligo come into the game on four points after one win and one loss.

Despite losing their opening two games, Rainey Old Boys have managed to pick up three points so far, but they’ll be keen to get a win under their belts.
