AIL Preview: Division 2A Round 14

Action at both ends of the 2A table this weekend make this another very competitive division, Old Crescent meet Banbridge in a big promotion play-off battle, while at the foot Navan and Malone face each other in a relegation eight pointer.

MU Barnhall v Greystones, Saturday February 17th, Parsonstown, 2:30pm

With just five games left including this weekend, Barnhall will look to keep their momentum going for the play-offs, while Greystones are concerned with matters at the foot of the table.

The Kildare club are looking to make it three wins in a row this weekend as they look to potentially snatch second spot away from Cashel. Having built on from their exploits last season, MU Barnhall again look a solid pick for the play-offs.

Greystones are still fighting for their safety and in this all leinster affair, will want the points to keep the chasing pack at bay. Four points separates them from Navan and while they have just one win in their last five, that win happened last weekend and can give them a vital boost in these closing weeks.

Navan v Malone, Saturday February 17th, Balreask Old, 2:30pm

A relegation dogfight in Balreask Old as ninth hosts tenth in a survival eight pointer.

Navan will want a favour from the Kildare neighbours this weekend and also end a wait since November to score a win in the competition. Bitterly close to winning last weekend it was a one point defeat and with a draw the week prior, this is one they have to get over the line in.

Malone can jump off the automatic drop zone if they take a win in this contest. It is massive for both, Malone also lost by a point last weekend but do have two wins in their last five coming into this one, this will be a bruising contest to say the least.

Old Crescent v Banbridge, Saturday February 17th, Takumi Park, 2:30pm

With the race for the promotion play-offs heating up, fifth placed Old Crescent meet fourth place Banbridge, a massive game for both sides’ hopes.

Having left Belfast narrowly with a win last weekend, Old Crescent will remain hopeful of taking something from another Ulster side this weekend. On a good run of late, four wins in five and lookin for a third in succession this weekend.

Banbridge completed the mother of all comebacks last weekend to defeat Nenagh keeping their recent winning run alive. In doing so they snatched fourth spot and will have to defend it against a strong Crescent side this weekend, three wins in their last five, they have the quality to get a result, this will be a hard game to call.

UL Bohemian v Cashel, Saturday February 17th, Annacotty, 2:30pm

Losing their spot in the play-off places last weekend, UL Bohemian are looking to bounce back in this Munster derby with Cashel.

The Red Robins have some tough results of late and with limited games remaining, BJ Botha’s men need to find their form once again. Just one win in their last five games, they need to avoid losing a third game in succession if they are to fight for promotion.

Cashel on the other hand come into this game still in second place off the back of a defeat to MU Barnhall last weekend. With two wins and a draw in their last five, the Tipp men have the confidence to hold second spot in the Division.

Nenagh Ormond P-P Ballymena

The meeting of Nenagh and Ballymena has been postponed this weekend due to weather conditions.
