AIL Preview: Division 1A Week 17

Before another one-week interval, the action in All Ireland Division 1A heats up with just two games remaining before the playoffs, one point separates league leaders Clontarf and Terenure College, while in the relegation battle just seven points separate ninth place Shannon from seventh spot Dublin University.

Lansdowne V Clontarf, Fri 31st March, Aviva Stadium Back Pitch, 8pm

The action kicks off with two games on Friday night in Dublin, with this one involving sixth spot Lansdowne taking on top spot Clontarf.

Last time out, Clontarf were victorious 24-14 over Ballynahinch while Lansdowne secured an impressive 32-10 victory away at Dublin University.

The two sides last met in October when Clontarf won 27-19.

UCD V Dublin University, Fri 31st March, UCD Bowl, 8pm

Friday night also sees eighth place UCD host seventh place Dublin University with both sides looking to pick up points to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle.

UCD fell to a 23-17 defeat to Young Munster last time out while the students lost 32-10 at home to Lansdowne.

In the reverse fixture, Dublin University beat UCD 38-24.

Cork Constitution V Terenure College, Sat 1st April, Temple Hill, 2:30pm

Third place Cork Constitution hosts second place Terenure College in a mouth watering fixture.

Last weekend saw Cork beat Shannon 36-19 while Terenure dispatched of Garryowen 52-0.

Back in October, Terenure College beat Cork Constitution 47-12.

Shannon V Ballynahinch, Sat 1st April, Thomond Park, 2:30pm

It’s do or die for ninth place Shannon, who are four points from safety and desperately need a win on Saturday to keep their hopes of remaining in Division 1A alive.

Shannon fell to a 36-19 loss away in Cork, while Ballynahinch, who lie in fifth, lost out 24-14 away to Clontarf.

When the two sides last met Shannon were blown away 41-8.

Garryowen V Young Munster, Sat 1st April, Dooradoyle, 3:30pm

Already relegated Garryowen are playing for pride and host a Young Munster side in fourth who are gearing up for the playoffs. 

Last weekend saw Garryowen were beaten 52-0 by Terenure College last time out, while Young Munster beat UCD 23-17.

In the reverse fixture, it was a tight affair that saw Young Munster edge it 26-23.
