AIL Preview: Division 2B Week 18

A minefield all year, but on the last day, it’s a four way race for the last promotion play-off spot, Sligo, Wanderers, Belfast Harlequins and Rainey Old Boys all in contention, while Enniscorthy and Wegians fight to avoid the automatic drop.

Galwegians V Dungannon, Sat 15th April, Crowley Park, 2:30pm

Galwegians will look to avoid automatic relegation as they host third-place Dungannon this weekend.

The Galway side currently sit ninth in the table and know that a win this weekend would keep them ahead of Enniscorthy in the league standings, leaving them in the relegation play-off spot fighting for their survival.

Dungannon are already assured of a play-off spot but they will look to end the year on a positive note, with another win before they go into the semi finals.

Greystones V Enniscorthy, Sat 15th April, Dr Hickey Park, 2:30pm

Greystones will lift their 2B title on home soil this weekend, but Scorty will look to spoil the party and with it keep their chances of survival alive.

Having agonisingly missed out on last year’s title and with it not getting promoted, they have had an impressive season this year and with their final appearance coming at Dr Hickey Park they will look to end on a positive outcome.

With their fellow relegation threatened neighbours also in action in a tough contest, a win for Enniscorthy is vital in securing their spot in the promotion/relegation play-off as they look to remain in to be for another season.

Rainey Old Boys V Galway Corinthians, Sat 15th April, Hatrick Park, 2:30pm

Rainey still have a chance at making the promotion play-off spots but they will need results elsewhere and a result on home soil to get them over the line

Sat in seventh place Rainey, the Ulstermen are last in that race at the moment sitting in the bottom half of that cluster, but a win here would put them in contention but they will need results elsewhere to get them through if it does work out in their favour.

Corinthians are guaranteed second spot in the league this year and they will look to keep up a winning mentality before we head into the semi finals in the coming weeks.

Sligo V Belfast Harlequins, Sat 15th April, Hamilton Park (Strandhill), 2:30pm

A huge game in Sligo sees fourth place entertain fifth as the race for promotion intensifies.

Sligo are currently fourth and will look to keep that fourth spot by the end of Saturday evening, they have grinded hard for some big results this year, the last coming in their tie with Malahide, they need a win here.

The Belfast side sit in sixth spot but a bonus win and Malahide and Corinthians winning their ties would see them over the line, as Wanderers have outscored them this season that result could be key.

Wanderers V Malahide, Sat 15th April, Merrion Road, 2:30pm

Wanderers will look to state their claim to be in the top four by Saturday evening, but Malahide may prove a stern test in this Dublin Derby.

The hosts are currently best placed to overtake Sligo spot in fourth should they fail to get a result against Belfast Harlequins, the Dubliners are 80+ minutes away from learning their fate.

Malahide have proven a tough commodity at times this year, they survived the threat of relegation and have claimed some big wins and showed their quality, trumping their opponents on the opening weekend they aim for the same result.
