AIL Preview: Division 2A Week 18

With the dust settled elsewhere in the Division, the title still needs deciding in 2A, as Queens University and Blackrock College both fight for the title and with it automatic promotion to 1B.

Ballymena V Blackrock College, Sat 15th April, Eaton Park, 2:30pm

With their tie to be played first with Ballymena, Blackrock would be crowned champions for a short while at least if they can get a result on the road and a result elsewhere favour them.

Sitting in seventh sport Ballymena are safe from relegation and have little to play for this weekend, but nonetheless a win here would give them a positive outcome for the end of the season, and something they can build on for the following year

Blackrock are two points behind Queens in the hunt for the league title, they have secured their spot in the play-off places, but are hungry for silverware this year it’s win or break for them at this stage and fingers crossed elsewhere.

Cashel V Navan, Sat 15th April, Spafield, 2:30pm

Despite a great run of form at the start of the season Cashel missed out on the top four but will look to end the season with a win at home to Navan.

A recent run of poor form has seen the Tipperary side miss out on fourth spot to Barnhall, they will look to try and get a win to end that poor run of form as season draws to a conclusion, ahead of another year in 2A.

Navan at the start of the season looked a safe bet to be in that promotion battle, but they slipped down the table and a win last time out to secure their status in division 2A for another year, they will look to keep up that winning run as they travel to Munster this weekend.

Nenagh Ormond V UL Bohemian, Sat 15th April, New Ormond Park, 2:30pm

In the Munster Derby at new Ormond Park Nina will look to pick up a win before they head into the semifinals as they take on relegation threatened UL.

Nenagh will hope to hold onto third place in the league standings with Barnhall hot on their heels looking to overtake them in the league table, they have had a rollercoaster of a season and are now a big underdog to make it up to 1B.

UL sealed their fate last time out with a spot in the relegation play-off, they will look to keep their status alive, if they can get results in the coming weeks but a win over Nenagh would put them in good contention to state their claim to stay up in the division.

Old Crescent V MU Barnhall, Sat 15th April, Takumi Park, 2:30pm

A game of importance at the top half of the league table, as Crescent could dent Barnhall’s hopes of a higher place finish if they get a positive result on home soil.

The Shannonsiders have struggled in the league this year but live to fight another day as they have secured safety, a win would be their seventh so far this season if they can get over the line.

Barnhall are already secured fourth spot in the league standings but a positive outcome on the road in Limerick could see them finish in third, they spent time in mid table but ended the year with a flurry, even being top of the table.

Dolphin V Queens University, Sat 15th April, Musgrave Park, 4pm

A game with all the marbles will decide the 2A title race, which kicks off later than the other fixtures as Queens aim to take the title this year.

Musgrave Park will play host to both Sundays Well and Dolphin on the final day, both sides have suffered relegation in recent weeks, Dolphin looking for another huge win which would be their third of the year, it will not change their fate but would be a dramatic outcome in the division.

Queens were the dominant force last year in this Division, but in the promotion play-offs they fell to Buccaneers who went up to 1B, this season however they have had some stern challenge especially from Blackrock, but it is make or break again for them on this final day.
