Roundup: AIL – Men’s Division 2C

Enniscorthy remain at the top of the Energia All-Ireland League Men’s Division 2C, after victory over Clonmel this weekend, Skerries remain in second place four behind as they narrowly overcame Bangor to keep the title race intact

Enniscorthy 27-11 Clonmel, Alcast Park

Enniscorthy pushed their lead out to four points, after they picked up another bonus point win over Clonmel, in similar fashion to their fixture in December they never looked like slipping up.

David Farrell and Nick Doyle crossed early to give Scorty a 12-0 lead, before Clonmel responded with a try and penalty of their own, Doyle added a second try to push the lead out to 17-8.

Clonmel landed another penalty to pull the gap down to just six points. Richie Dunne added the fourth try to make it 24-11, before Ivan Poole kicked a late penalty in the final act of the game.

Omagh Academicals 24-8 City of Derry, Thomas Mellon Playing Fields

Omagh turned the tide on Derry, as they picked up all four points in a fantastic home performance. Having not made a score in the encounter in December, they looked sharper this time around and put their Ulster Rivals to the sword.

Luke Hanson and Kyle Beattie crossed early for a 12-0 lead for Omagh, before Philly Ewing made it 17-0 for the hosts. Derry landed a penalty before eventually getting their opening try, but they could not add any more scores with a late effort giving them a bonus point.

Skerries 14-13 Bangor, Holmpatrick

Skerries got revenge after Bangor ended the impressive eight game winning streak when they met on the 11th of December, the narrowest of margins giving them all the points in a tight game of rugby.

Bangor got over first for a 5-0 lead, before Tom Mulvany equalised with Skerries first try, Shane Murphy would add a penalty just minutes later to give them a 8-5 lead. Murphy added another before the interval to make it 11-5.

Bangor responded from the restart with a penalty to cut the gap, before another Murphy penalty made it 14-8. With ten minutes left Bangor got their second try of the afternoon, the missed conversion made it a one point game.

The tension mounted in Skerries, first the Seasiders had a penalty chance which fell wide, then the visitors had a late penalty chance to seal a win but again the kick fell off the mark.

Sundays Well 20-13 Bruff, Saturday January 15th, 2:30pm, Musgrave Park

Sundays Well finally got their first win of the season, as a late try helped them claim all four points. The result keeps them bottom due to a -46 score difference.

Well crossed early for the opening try, before Andrew O’Byrne crossed to give them a 7-5 lead. Paul Collins put more room between the sides as he landed a penalty to make it 10-5. Well adding a second try just before the half time whistle, to leave it 10-10 at the break.

Collins added another penalty before The Well kicked another effort at goal to equalise, and right at the death they crossed for the decisive try, a huge boost to their season.

Tullamore 18-10 Midleton, Spollanstown

Tullamore hold onto their fourth spot in the table, after an eight point win over Midleton, the result seeing the Cork club drop down to sixth spot in the division table.

The hosts took an early 13-0 lead, before Midleton responded with a try and a penalty to bring it back to 13-10 at the half time interval.

The Offaly club battled hard in the second half, they added a penalty and a try of their own in the half, to take home all four points.
