Preview: AIL – Men’s Division 2C

Enniscorthy go into the final few weeks of the season, in the lead of the Energia All-Ireland League Men’s Division 2C, holding a nine point advantage as challengers Skerries will look to push them to the final day.

City of Derry V Sundays Well, Saturday March 26th, Judge’s Road, 2:30pm

The Well and Derry are two teams who are fighting for their survival in the division, a point separates them in the table, with both looking for some breathing room over Clonmel at the bottom.

City of Derry dropped down the table after their recent fixture, a disappointing loss to fellow Ulster outfit Bangor, the 41-25 defeat handing them their 11th defeat of the season, a win is vital this weekend for their safety.

Sundays Well have been strong in their end of season fixtures, beating the title challenges Enniscorthy and Skerries back to back, their 46-12 victory over Omagh Academicals last weekend moving them up to eight as they aim for a similar result this weekend.

Clonmel V Bruff, Saturday March 26th, Ardgaoithe, 2:30pm

Clonmel will need a big result this weekend to ease their relegation woes, as they face a Bruff outfit who may not entirely be safe on 25 points in seventh.

The 40-14 defeat to Skerries was another crushing defeat for the Tipperary club, they have the lowest number of games lost in the bottom half of the table, but the wins have been hard to come by.

Bruff’s 33-22 win over Midlelton was a perfect result for them going into the break, as it helped put some room between them and the bottom three teams, a strong showing against a team below them will be a crucial result for them.

Midleton V Bangor, Saturday March 26th, Towns Park, 2:30pm

Miracles do happen but a 15 point haul in their last three games and Enniscorthy and Skerries suffering three defeats in a row, could see Bangor as champions, as they travel to a mid-table Midleton.

Midleton’s defeat last time out saw them remain in fifth spot, a good second half performance showing their quality, victory this weekend could be a big end of season boost for them.

Bangor picked up another impressive win before the break, dispatching their fellow Ulster counterparts City of Derry by 16 points, a bonus point win could see them tie for second this weekend, but a top three finish will show their challenge for next season.

Omagh Academicals V Enniscorthy, Saturday March 26th, Thomas Mellon Playing Fields, 2:30pm

Enniscorthy have one hand on the title going into the final three weekends, sitting nine points ahead they know it is still to play for, Omagh will be testing opposition as they will aim to finish higher up the table.

Omaghs 34 point defeat to Sundays Well will be on their minds ahead of this weekend’s action, they struggled against the team fighting to avoid relegation and might find it tough to get a result this weekend also.

Enniscorthy continued their dominance at the top of the division, with a commanding 41-14 bonus point win over high flying Tullamore. The title is not engraved just yet but a result this weekend could see them home.

Tullamore V Skerries, Saturday March 26th, Spollanstown, 2:30pm

Skerries are the other half of the title challenge in the final few weeks, the title can be theirs with a final few strong performances, they travel to Tullamore who have struggled to get a winning streak going recently.

Tullamore’s defeat last time out was just their fifth of the season but their performance was far from ideal, only coming into the tie late on as they struggled to find their defeat, they look to finish in the top four despite the next few results.

Skerries performance before the break saw them keep pressure on Scorty, they have been a title challenger since the off leading until they were knocked off by their title challengers, the final few games are crucial to their season.
