Irish Trio extend Contracts

It’s been a busy week of negotiations for the IRFU as they have announced contract extensions for three high profile members of the Irish squad with Cian Healy joining Peter O’Mahony and Johnny Sexton all signing new playing deals.

Leinster prop Healy put pen to paper on a single year extension this morning which will see him star for the Irish side until the end of the 2021/2022 season and add to his 107 cap career in green.

This follows the announcement earlier in the week of Johnny Sexton and Peter O’Mahony signing new one and two year deals respectively.

Irish captain Sexton, who turns 36 at the end of this season, had been surrounded by rumours of retirement for sometime now especially after comments he made about potentially not being part of the full World Cup cycle were latched onto by members of the media.

Flanker O’Mahony, 31, who was dismissed early during Ireland’s Six Nations opener in Murrayfield has signed a two year extension to his deal and will certainly stay with Munster and Ireland until the end of the 2023 season.

With no Six Nations action this weekend all eyes turn to the PRO14 action as the Irish provinces face off. Munster host Connacht at Thomond Park this evening while Leinster travel to Kingspan Ravenhill to play Ulster tomorrow evening. Both games kick off at 7:35pm
