Briggs voted Player of the Decade

Former Irish international and Munster player Niamh Briggs has been voted as the winner of the Ireland Women’s Player of the Decade. Briggs romped home with a total of 68% of the vote on the website Front Row Union.

Briggs started her career at Waterford Institute of Technology. She played with Waterford side Dungarvan before moving to a higher level with Clonmel in Tipperary. She has played for UL Bohemians after moving to Limerick as a member of the Gardai.

Briggs from Waterford was a major player in Ireland’s Women’s Grand Slam Championship in 2013 and the ascent to number two in the world in 2014. She also played for Ireland in the 2010 and 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup. She was also a member of the Ireland teams that won the 2015 Women’s Six Nations Championship.

Speaking to The Front Row Union after the award was announced she said:

“I’m shocked and delighted!! I was so happy to make the team of the decade, I never thought I’d win the player accolade, especially when you consider the caliber of the other girls across the board!

Proud to be nominated beside Ali and Molloy, and it’s brought back some brilliant memories!!

Thanks to The Front Row Union for running the poll and thanks to everyone who voted”.
