AIL Preview: Division 1B Week 12

It is the last game in this block of fixtures in 1B and there are plenty of exciting contests happening all around the division. City of Armagh look to become the first team to get a win away at Ollie Campbell Park this season. Highfield and Old Wesley will attempt to continue their winning ways. Eddie O’Sullivan’s Buccaneers are looking to bounce back following last week’s defeat to Banbridge. Let us look at the fixtures coming up.

Buccaneers V St Mary’s College, Saturday January 26th, Dubarry Park, 2:30pm

Buccaneers suffered only their third defeat of the season last week to a driven Banbridge. Can they get back to normality this weekend?

Buccs are very hard to beat at home.  A win will keep them on City of Armagh’s radar.

St Mary’s College are on the slippery slide at the moment, sitting in sixth and the danger off falling further behind the leading pack. They need a win this weekend, if they’re are serious about making the playoffs this season.

Highfield V Malone, Saturday January 26th, Woodleigh Park, 2:30pm

Highfield are looking really strong and balanced, eager to keep the winning run going this weekend vs bottom of the table Malone.

The form book indicates that Highfield are the obvious pick for a comfortable win in this one.

But, as we always say, anything can happen in 1B, never rule out one or two surprises!

Naas V Banbridge, Saturday January 26th, Forenaughts, 2:30pm

A Naas defeat here would put them very much in that danger zone conversation, a must win for Johne Murphy’s charges.

Banbridge will be full of confidence following last weekend’s convincing display against Buccaneers. A win this weekend jumps them over Naas in the league standings.

Naas need nothing less than a win from this game as a defeat could put them in the bottom two. Can they get the victory?

Old Belvedere V City Of Armagh, Saturday January 26th, Olle Campbell Park, 2:30pm

This is arguably the game of the week. Fourth vs first. Two teams who are on impressive winning runs and eager to continue that trend.

Ben Mannion’s team have been flawless at home this season, winning five from five there. They also have won their last two away games, something they struggled to do for quite a long time. However, their fortress will be put to the test in the next three home games, against strong opposition in City of Armagh, Highfield and Buccaneers. Their results in these fixtures are crucial if they are to make it into the playoffs this season.

City of Armagh are currently the top dogs in the league, winning seven games in a row and sitting happily at the top of the table. They’ll be raring to take on the challenge this weekend.

Old Wesley V UCC, Saturday January 26th, Energia Park, 2:30pm

Old Wesley sits just outside the playoff places and another win this weekend would keep them knocking at the door.

The D4 club are strong favourites heading into the game. They are up against a UCC side that have looked defeated in recent weeks. It would be very surprising if they managed to pull off a shock win on Saturday.
