Preview: AIL – Men’s Division 1B

Round 13 of the Energia All-Ireland Division 1B gets underway on Saturday afternoon, with all five games taking place at 2:30pm.

After a small break Old Wesley head into the weekend six points ahead of Highfield in second, but the second placed team can cut into the deficit with a win at Energia Park.

Old Wesley v Highfield, Energia Park

The two best teams in the division meet in what should be an enthralling clash at Energia Park.

The match will see Highfield’s top ranked defence in points allowed try to nullify Old Wesley’s explosive attack that averages 24 points per game this season.

Old Belvedere v St Mary’s College, Ollie Campbell Park

Third place St Mary’s College travel to Ollie Campbell Park to take on Old Belvedere.

The two teams played out a tight fixture in the reverse game earlier this season, which saw St Mary’s College win 24-21 at Templeville Road.

City of Armagh v Naas, Palace Grounds

Fourth meets sixth as City of Armagh welcome Naas to the Palace Grounds in Round 13.

Naas come into this match full of confidence, winning two of their last three matches, while City of Armagh lost their most recent match.

Shannon v Navan, Thomond Park

Bottom of the table Navan will look to pick up their third win of the season as they take on fifth placed Shannon at Thomond Park.

Shannon endured mixed fortunes in January, winning 42-24 at home to Malone, losing 38-29 at Naas and then drawing 9-9 at Highfield.

Banbridge v Malone, Rifle Park

Eighth placed meets ninth placed as Banbridge welcome Malone to Rifle Park in a clash between two strugglers.

The two sides have picked up just four wins between them this season, and boast the two worst defences in terms of points conceded
