McBryde reflects on loss to La Rochelle

Leinster forwards coach Robin McBryde has spoken about the immediate aftermath of Saturday’s crushing defeat in the Champions Cup final.

Speaking to the media yesterday afternoon, McBride described how there was complete silence in the dressing room right after the players made their way in.

“What happened was Marcus (Ó Buachalla, Senior Communications Manager at Leinster Rugby) insisted on Leo Cullen doing a press conference straight away after the game, which delayed his attendance in the changing room.

“There was a ten minute period where we all stood in a circle, staring into space and at the floor and not a word was spoken. It was just everybody left to their own thoughts, trying to process things”

This of course begs the question about preparing for this weekends fixture against Glasgow and trying to put as devastating a loss as that behind you as quickly as possible.

“I wouldn’t have thought that there would be anybody thinking of Glasgow at that stage. I think it was a case of reflecting on what had just happened and just trying to process it in their own minds.

“I know it happened by chance, but it was good that everyone got that ten minute window to gather themselves and try put things into boxes upstairs in your head.

“And then Leo came in, said a few words trying to pick everyone up and in fairness I think that’s when everyone realised that we can’t dwell on this too long. We’ve got to go through thick or thin together, enjoy each others company, have a chat and look after each another. To make sure we come back stronger next week.”

Leinster, didn’t relinquish the lead until there were two minutes to spare Saturday, at which stage it was too late. They’ll look to bounce back against Glasgow Warriors at 3:15pm Saturday in their United Rugby Championship Quarter Final.
