Match Report
Leinster demolish Edinburgh
Leinster got back to winning ways with a 26-7 bonus point advantage over Edinburgh this evening, in front of an 8559 attendance, the Irish province looking to push on in the United Rugby Championship.
Tries from Scott Penny, Nick McCarthy, Vakh Abdaladze and Max Deegan, helping them secure a valuable bonus point on home soil.
Edinburgh worked hard but failed to challenge the hosts, they managed a late consolation try late on as Emiliano Boffelli crossed over.
The losing streak for the Scottish club in the capital continues, as they remain winless since 2005 on Dublin soil. Both had weakened teams due to international commitments, but the depth from the blues squad simply could not be matched.
Edinburgh started brighter early on laying siege to the Leinster half, the hosts managed to turn the tide and after Connor Boyle was sent to the sin bin, Penny crossed under the posts for the first try of the night, for a 7-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Scrum half McCarthy managed to spot a gap to add the second try on the half hour mark, he gathered from the back of a maul and sprinted for the line to touch down, evading the challenge of the Scottish forward line, Ross Byrne kicking the conversion again to make it 14-0, a lead they took to the half time break.
The second half began in favour of the hosts, they looked to continue their scoring exploits from the off but were stopped short on numerous occasions, with the Scottish side failing to make an impact on the other side of the field.
After numerous attacks and phases, Leinster were rewarded with a third try after 65 minutes, the big prop Abdaladze powering over off a maul, the key to Leinster's success on the night, Byrne missing the conversion to leave it at a 19-0 advantage.
The bonus point was ensured with eight minutes left on the clock, the Irish province using the full width of the RDS to launch an attack, the offload by Byrne seeing Deegan just about touch the ball down for the fourth try, the conversion pushing the lead out to 26-0.
The Scots looked outclassed all evening by a strong Leinster squad, but they managed to get a late consolation try as Boffelli managed to beat the tackle and cross, the winger managing to convert his try also from a short range.
