AIL Preview: Division 2C Week 2

Division 2C of the Energia All-Ireland League returns this weekend and after a first round that had everything from surprise wins and giant killings, there’s yet another round of entertaining fixtures on the way.

Bangor v Ballina, Upritchard Park, Saturday October 8th, 2:30pm.

After beating Sundays Well 30-21 in their season opener, Bangor will be eager to maintain their 100% start to the new campaign. This weekend, they host recently relegated Ballina to Upritchard Park. Ballina played out an entertaining game against Skerries last weekend, but ultimately fell to a 29-21 defeat.

Midleton v Sundays Well, Town Park, Saturday October 8th, 2:30pm.

Midleton and Sundays Well both have huge opportunities to bounce back from opening day defeats this weekend. Clonmel beat Midleton 18-8, while Sundays Well were defeated by Bangor. With neither side wanting to lose their opening two games of the season, it’s bound to be an attacking game at Towns Park.

Omagh Academicals v Clonmel, Thomas Mellon Playing Fields, Saturday October 8th, 2:30pm.

Omagh Academicals fell to an agonising narrow defeat at the hands of Bruff in round one, losing 20-18. Clonmel got their 2022/23 season off to a much better start with an 18-8 win over Midleton and they will be keen to continue their impressive form.

Skerries v Instonians, Holmpatrick, Saturday October 8th, 2:30pm.

Perhaps the standout fixture of Division 2C comes at Holmpatrick this weekend, as Skerries host 2C new boys Instonians. The Ulster outfit sent shockwaves around the division after their bonus point win over Tullamore. Skerries also got their campaign off to a perfect start, beating Ballina at Heffernan Park.

Tullamore v Bruff, Spollanstown, Saturday October 8th, 2:30pm.

Bruff narrowly beat Omagh Academicals in matchday one and will be keen to maintain their winning start to the season. They face a tough trip to Tullamore this weekend, who will undoubtedly come out all guns blazing after defeat to Instonians in round one.
