Methodist College book Ulster Cup Final spot

Methodist College Belfast cruised into the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools' Cup with a dominant 43-15 win over bitter Belfast rivals RBAI at Kingspan Stadium.

The competition's most successful team ran in six tries on their way to a comfortable win, spearheaded by an incredible kicking display from full-back Ben McFarlane, and will now meet either Wallace High or Campbell College Belfast in the traditional St Patrick's Day decider.

McFarlane and RBAI fly-half Josh Eagleson traded early penalties but, despite the final score-line, Methody went in at the break only seven points ahead as tries from Joe Dickson, Ryan Kidd and Josh Stevens were cancelled out by RBAI tries from back rowers Bryn Ward and Daniel Moore, both off powerful driving mauls.

But a yellow card to RBAI centre Rory Ellerby shortly before Moore's score would prove to be a deciding factor as MCB would add two tries immediately after the restart while up a man, and that took the game away from their opponents.

Dickson grabbed a second when he went over unopposed in the corner before centre Lorcan Hanratty managed to go through a gap and over the line as MCB stretched away to make the score-line rather one-sided.

Replacement Liam Black went over for the final score of the game to emphasise their dominance, converted by the metronomic boot of McFarlane - who kicked 13 of a possible 15 points - and set up a final against either Wallace or Campbell, who meet in tomorrow's second semi-final.
