Roundup: Lidl NFL Division 3 Round 2

Clare once again impressed as they made it two wins from two in Division 3. Fidelma Marrinan with 2-03 for Wayne Freeman’s side. A goal from Ciara Banville earned Wexford their first win of the campaign as they came from behind to beat Down in Newry.

Clare 4-11 Sligo 2-06

Fidelma Marrinan scored 2-03 as Clare made it two wins from two in the league with an excellent win over Sligo at Clarecastle. 

Playing against a strong wind in the opening half goals from Marrinan and Chloe Moloney gave the Banner County a 2-05 to 1-03 lead going in at half-time.

Marrinan added a second goal in the second half while Joanna Doohan also raised the green flag as Wayne Freeman’s side remain top of Division 3.

Down 0-05 Wexford 1-05

Ciara Banville’s goal proved the difference as Wexford picked up their first win of the campaign and leave Down without a point.

There was very little between the sides throughout. The home side made a fine start to the game and were two points ahead going in at the interval – 0-04 to 0-02.

In the early exchanges of the second half Down opened up a three point lead. The lead was just one before Banville found the back of the net in the 49th minute. Caoilfhionn Ni Nuallain sealed the win for Wexford with a late point.

Roscommon 1-14 Louth 0-06

Roscommon impressed again as they claimed their second win in a row in Division 2 with 11 points to spare over Louth in Kiltoom

The Rossie made a fine start to the game and kicked over three points. Laura Fleming then grabbed the game’s only goal in the ninth minute to extend their lead to five. Kate Flood kicked over two points as Louth trailed by five at the break.

Louth cut the gap to four but Roscommon hit back and five unanswered points saw them lead by nine in the 51st minute. Louth got consolation points but Roscommon ended the game with points from Aoife Gavin and Aishling Shanagher.

Offaly 5-04 Antrim 2-08

There were plenty of goals in Edenderry as Offaly picked up their first win of the league campaign and Antrim fell to their second defeat.

A goal from Ellie Murphy gave Antrim an early lead but Offaly replied with a goal from Ellee McEvoy. The Saffrons were three up in the 20th minute before a penalty from Róisín Cockram drew Offaly level. Late points saw Antrim lead by two at the break.

The lead was three in the early minutes of the second half before Cockram scored another penalty. She grabbed her third goal minutes later to edge Offaly ahead. Emma Hand grabbed Offaly’s fifth goal in an excellent win for the Faithful County.
