Roundup: Lidl NFL Division 4 Round 3

Leitrim were clinical as they made it three wins from three with a comprehensive win away to Derry. Eimear Smyth was excellent as Fermanagh saw off the challenge of Wicklow and move to second in the table behind Leitrim. 

Carlow 1-08 Longford 1-08

Niamh Brady scored a late point to earn Longford a draw away to Carlow. It’s the second week in a row that Carlow have picked up one point.

Aided by a strong win Longford made a great start with the game with an early goal. They opened up a five point lead before Carlow opened the scoring through Rachel Sawyer. Points were traded before the interval as Longford led 0-02 to 1-04.

Longford kept the scoreboard ticking over in the second half. A goal from Cliodhna Ní Shé grabbed a goal to cut the deficit to one. Ní Shé levelled before Bronagh Nolan gave Carlow the lead for the first time. Near the end Brady drew Longford level.

Derry 0-08 Leitrim 8-09

Leitrim were ruthless as they recorded a comprehensive win over Derry to make it three wins from three for Jonny Garrity’s side.

First half goals from Ailbhe Glancy, Michelle Guckian, Vivienne Egan, Leah Fox (2) gave Leitrim a 16 point lead at half-time. Derry only scored three points in the opening half.

Leitrim didn’t let up with the scoring in the second half. Fox completed her hat-trick while Clancy scored her second goal and Brigid O’Reilly rounded off a superb win for Leitrim with their eighth goal.

Fermanagh 2-15 Wicklow 2-07

An excellent second half performance saw Fermanagh record an eight point win over Wicklow to keep the pressure on leaders Leitrim.

Sinead McGettigan grabbed Wicklow an early goal after five minutes. Two frees from Eimear Smyth just before half-time gave Fermanagh a one point lead – 0-07 to 1-03.

A goal from Niamh Caffrey in the 35th minute put Wicklow in front by two. Smyth was in excellent form for Fermanagh and her goal in the 48th minute put Fermanagh ahead. Smyth grabbed a second goal in the 55th minute and kicked over late points for her side.

Limerick 1-09 Kilkenny 0-01

Limerick picked up their second win of the campaign and are level on points with Fermanagh with an eleven point win over bottom side Kilkenny.

The lead was six points after 25 minutes with Limerick kicking over six unanswered points. Kilkenny scored their one and only point just before the break as Limerick held a seven point lead.

In the 33rd minute Limerick grabbed a goal through Karen O’Leary to extend their lead to 10 points. Laoise Browse rounded off a fine win for Limerick with their final point in the 56th minute.
