Roundup: Lidl NFL Division 2 Round 7

Kildare finished the league with another win; their seventh in seven games. This time they defeated Westmeath by seven points in Newbridge. Cavan were relegated to Division 3 after they lost to Tyrone and Monaghan had a fine win over already relegated Laois.

Tipperary 3-04 Donegal 2-08

Donegal recorded a one point win over Tipperary in Fethard. In doing so they finished their league campaign in 3rd place in the table.

Angela McGuigan, Maria Creedon and Neasa Towey scored first half goals for Tipp. Katie Heron scored a goal for Donegal as they were behind by four points at half-time.

Twice in the early stages of the second half Tipp were ahead by four points. Donegal went ahead in the 54th minute with a goal from Niamh McLaughlin. Donegal ended the game with 14 players when Shannon McLaughlin was sin binned. Tipp cut the gap to one point but Donegal held on.  

Cavan 1-05 Tyrone 1-10

Cavan were relegated to Division 3 when they fell to a five time defeat to their Ulster rivals Tyrone at Redhills.

Tyrone kicked over the opening two points before Cavan took the lead through an Ally Cahill goal. The sides were level before Tyrone took the lead again and held a 0-06 to 1-02 lead at half-time.

After 16 minutes of play in the second half Tyrone had opened a five point lead. Cavan got their first point of the second half in the 47th minute. Tyrone scored a goal from the penalty spot in the 54th minute as they went on to win by five points.

Kildare 2-09 Westmeath 1-07 

Kildare ladies ended the league with another win. The Lilywhites were the only side in the four divisions who ended their campaign with a 100% record. 

Kildare scored 2-05 in the first half. Ruth Sargent and Neasa Dooley scored the goals early on for Diane O’Hora’s side. Leanne Slevin scored from the penalty spot for Westmeath as they went in trailing by three points at half-time.

Westmeath were unable to cut into the lead in the second half. Both sides just added two points to their scoreline after the break. 

Monaghan 3-18 Laois 0-06

Monaghan retained their Division 2 status for next year with a comprehensive win over bottom side Laois.

The Farney County held a 10 point lead at the break. They grabbed their first goal in the 14th minute when Jennifer Duffy found the back of the net. Laois were only able to score three points in that opening half.

Laois didn’t score their first point of the second half until the 44th minute. Sarah Tierney and Eabha Sherry scored goals for Monaghan after the interval as they ran out winners by 21 points.
