Roundup: Lidl NFL Division 2 Round 4

Kildare were made to work hard for their fourth win of the campaign over Tipperary. The home side cut the gap to one in stoppage time and missed a free to give them a well earned draw. Monaghan picked up their first point of the campaign with a draw at home to Donegal. Eabha Sherry with 1-01 late on for the Farney County.

Monaghan 2-10 Donegal 1-13

A goal from Eabha Sherry helped Monaghan earn a draw against their Ulster rivals Donegal. It’s the Farney County’s first point of the campaign.

Monaghan made a great start to the game and scored a goal through Leanne Maguire inside the first minute. Donegal replied with a goal from Nicole Gordon and a couple of points to lead by two. Monaghan were reduced to 14 near half-time when Shona Brady received a yellow card. Donegal held a three point lead at the break.

The sides exchanged points in the early stages of the second half as Donegal maintained their three point advantage. Sherry grabbed a goal to draw the sides level. Donegal edged in front but a point from Sherry earned Monaghan a share of the spoils.

Tipperary 0-07 Kildare 0-08

Róisín Byrne kicked over 0-06 as Kildare maintained their 100% record in Division 2 with a hard fought win away to Tipperary.

Throughout the game Tipp frustrated Kildare. The Lilywhites were ahead by three points in the 22nd minute. Tipp got another point to leave them trailing by two at the break.

In the 36th minute Kildare were ahead by four points. A point from Aoife Rattigan extended that lead to five points in the 40th minute. Byrne scored a crucial point for Kildare in the 53rd minute. Tipp cut the gap to one in the 57th minute. They had a chance to level the game near the end but missed a free. 

Tyrone 2-08 Laois 2-08

Goals from Chloe McCaffrey and Aoibhinn McHugh saw Tyrone come from five points down to salvage a draw against Laois. 

The visitors made a great start to the game and held a five point lead at half-time 0-03 to 1-05. The home side found scores hard to come by in that opening half.

It got better after the break for Laois as they got a second goal and put five between the sides but credit to Tyrone they staged a fine comeback. The home side were ahead by one with full-time approaching but Laois replied with a late point.

Westmeath 0-06 Cavan 1-04

A second half goal from Rebecca McLaughlin earned Cavan a narrow win over Westmeath in Mullingar. It’s a second win of the campaign for the Breffni County.

Sinead Levingstone opened the scoring in the fourth minute but Westmeath replied with two points to edge in front. The home side added on another point to give them a two point lead at half-time – 0-03 to 0-01.

Westmeath extended the lead to three points in the early stages of the second half. Cavan cut the gap to one before their keeper Joanne Reilly pulled off an excellent save to keep her goal intact. Niamh McCorry levelled for Cavan before McLaughlin got the only goal of the game. Westmeath cut the gap to one but couldn’t get the equalising score.
