Roundup: Lidl NFL Division 1 Round 4

Waterford picked up their first points of Division 1 with a well deserved nine point win away to Cork. The Déise put in a dominant display to come away with the three points.  Armagh moved to the top of the table with a win over Meath. Aimee Mackin and Kelly Mallon with the goals for the Orchard County who have impressed in the division.

Kerry 0-08 Mayo 0-08 

Sinead Walsh’s last gasp point earned Mayo a draw away to Kerry on Saturday afternoon. The result ended Kerry’s 100% record in Division 1.

In what was a low scoring game. The sides went into the break on level terms 0-04 apiece. Kerry had been in front by three points but four points in a row saw Mayo lead by one point  approaching half-time. A point before the break Amy Harrington levelled for the home side.

Kerry were ahead by three points with 10 minutes of the game remaining but credit to Mayo they never gave up. The Kingdom will rue missed opportunities. Walsh and Maria Cannon cut the gap to one point before Walsh fired over to draw the game for her side. 

Cork 1-06 Waterford 2-12

Waterford picked up their first win with an excellent win over Cork in Páirc Uí Rinn. It was a deserved win for the Déise who dominated the game.

The visitors took the game to Cork from the start and kicked over three unanswered points early on. Aine O’Neill scored a goal for Waterford in the 14th minute to extend their lead to seven points. The lead was 0-01 to 1-09 at half-time.

Clare Walsh got Waterford’s second goal in the 34th minute to put 12 points between the sides. Cork had no answer to them. Lydia McDonagh scored a late consolation goal for the home side.

Dublin 0-16 Galway 1-12

Points from Orlagh Nolan and Hannah Tyrrell (free) saw Dublin come from behind to defeat Galway in Parnell Park. The result saw Galway drop to the bottom of the table and are still without a point.

Galway made a good start to the game and held an early two point lead. Hannah Tyrrell drew Dublin level in the 11th minute before Annabelle Timothy edged them in front. Linda Booth scored the only goal of the game in the 14th minute. Galway held a two point lead at half-time.

Galway held the lead for the majority of the second half and were three ahead approaching full-time but Dublin had other ideas and staged a comeback to win by one point. 

Meath 0-08 Armagh 2-12

Armagh moved to the top of Division 1 and kept their 100% start intact when they recorded an excellent win over Meath.

With seven minutes gone on the clock Armagh held a 0-04 to no score lead. Meath didn’t get their opening score until the 14th minute. They tagged on a few more points but Armagh were ahead by two at the interval.

In the 37th minute Aimee Mackin scored her side’s first goal to put five between the sides. Kelly Mallon got the Orchard County’s second goal in the 44th minute to extend the lead to eight points. Meath were only able to add one more point to their score while Armagh wrapped up a great win with two points from Mallon.
