Review: Lidl NFL Div 3 Week 2

Kildare had another convincing win, this time defeating a young Longford side. Wexford had a fine win over Clare while Louth made it two wins from two with victory over Offaly.

Clare 2-03 Wexford 3-09 

For the second week in a row Wexford overcame the concession of two first half goals to claim a win in Division 3.

Fidelma Marrinan and a Chloe Moloney penalty gave the Banner County a narrow win at half-time. Sarah Harding scored a goal in the first half for Wexford.  

Wexfored upped their game in the second half with goals from Aisling Murphy gave them a nine point win. For Clare it’s their first league defeat. 

Down 2-08 Sligo 0-09

Down got their first win of the league with five points to spare over Sligo. It was Sligo’s second defeat in a row after falling to Clare last weekend.

Down got their first goal in the opening half and it set them on their way. They were ahead by five points at half-time.

Sligo cut the gap to three during the second half but a second Down goal in the 56th minute killed the game off. 

Offaly 0-07 Louth 2-12

It’s two wins from two for Louth as they inflicted a second defeat of the campaign on Offaly in Clara this afternoon.

Louth were impressive in their opening game against Longford and followed that win up with an 11 point win away to Offaly.

Both goals were scored in the opening half as Louth held a 2-06 to 0-04 lead over Offaly at the break. Offaly couldn’t make a comeback in the second half

Kildare 4-16 Longford 0-06

Kildare were impressive as they made it two wins from two against a young Longford side who have found the going tough in the league so far.

Longford were dealt an early blow when Róisin Byrne found the back of the net. Byrne was to find the net again in the game. 

Ciara Price scored a brace of goals while Neasa Dooley kicked over five points for Diane O’Hora’s side. The Lilywhites signaled their intentions for this year with another excellent performance.
