Review: Lidl NFL Div 2 Week 2

Westmeath produced an excellent performance to brush aside the challenge of Laois while Armagh made it two wins from two with a hard fought win away to Roscommon.

Monaghan 1-12 Tyrone 2-04

Despite conceding a goal in the opening quarter Monaghan recorded their first win of the league campaign with five points to spare over Ulster rivals Tyrone.

The Red Hands were ahead by just one point after 17 minutes but in an entertaining first half the Monaghan took a three point lead in at half-time 0-08 to 1-02.

Monaghan were able to build on that lead in the second half. Tyrone worked hard to get back into the game but the Farney County were able to hold on for a fine win.

Westmeath 7-08 Laois 0-11

Westmeath had an emphatic win over Laois in Mullingar this afternoon. After the disappointment of losing to Tipperary the Lake County bounced back in superb fashion.

Three first half goals gave Westmeath a 3-04 to 0-05 lead at the break. Westmeath were clinical and Laois had no answer to them.

Westmeath didn’t let up with the scoring in the second half and added four more goals to their tally as they picked up their first league win.

Roscommon 0-12 Armagh 2-13

For the second week in a row Armagh picked up a win on the road; this time defeating a dogged Roscommon side by seven points at Kiltoom.

Aimee Mackin scored two goals in this win for the Orchard County. Her first came in the 22nd minute as Armagh trailed by four points. Scores were exchanged as the sides were level at the break 0-09 to 1-06

A penalty from Mackin in the 41st minute gave Armagh the lead and they were able to pull away from Roscommon in the final minutes.

Tipperary 3-13 Cavan 0-10

Tipperary made it two wins from two with a nine point win at home to Cavan this afternoon. The three goals were all scored after the break.
