Review: Lidl NFL Div 2 Week 3

Armagh and Tipperary both made it three wins from three in Division 2 with wins over Monaghan and Roscommon respectively while Cavan got their first win of the campaign when they’d one point to spare over Westmeath.

Armagh 1-13 Monaghan 1-03

Armagh made it three wins from three in Division 2 with a 10-point win over neighbours Monaghan.

The Orchard County raced into an early three-point lead but Monaghan were on level terms in the fourth minute when they grabbed a goal.

Alexandra Clarke got Armagh’s goal in the 12th minute to extend the lead to six and they were to build on that. Eight points separated the sides at the break. Monaghan could find no way back.

Cavan 2-08 Westmeath 3-04

A last gasp free from the boot of Aisling Gilsenan saw Cavan claim victory over Westmeath. It’s their first win of the campaign.

Rachel Dillon goal gave Westmeath a 1-2 to 1-0 lead at the break. Vicky Carr was sin-binned for the Lake County in the second half and Cavan made use of their numerical advantage.

Aoife Connolly and Clara Thornton got goals for Westmeath and it looked like they’d earned a point before Gilsenan pointed over a free in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Laois 3-08 Tyrone 3-07

Laois held on after a six goal thriller at Crettyard. They had been down by seven points in the early stages of the game and were ahead by four nearing the end of the game but a goal from Tyrone made for a nervy ending.

Tyrone scored two goals but credit to Laois goals from Eva Galvin and Mo Nerney saw them trail by just three at the break – 2-06 to 2-03.

Nerney got her second goal at the start of the second half to draw the sides level. A point from Erone Fitzpatrick put Laois ahead by four. Despite conceding a third goal Laois held on.

Tipperary 0-06 Roscommon 0-04

Tipp made it three wins from three with a two-point win over Roscommon in a low scoring game in Fethard. Roscommon still await their first point of the campaign.

The lead was just one point at the break 0-03 to 0-02 as scorers were hard to come by for both sides.

Aishling Moloney kicked over three second half points while Laura Fleming kept Roscommon in the game but Tipp did enough to secure another win.
