Review: Lidl NFL Div 3 Week 3

Kildare and Louth continued their good start to Division 3 but were made to work hard for wins over Clare and Sligo. Clodagh Lohan’s goal proved crucial for Longford as they picked up their first points with a win over Offaly.

Wexford 1-04 Down 0-08

Wexford suffered their first defeat of the campaign as Down secured their second win and a row and moved up to third in the table.

Sarah Harding scored a goal as Wexford raced into a five point lead after 24 minutes played. The lead was cut to three at half-time.

Wexford failed to score in the second half as Down made a remarkable comeback. Five unanswered points saw the Mourne County come away from Enniscorthy with a fine win.

Clare 0-07 Kildare 0-09

Kildare were made to work hard for their third win in a row away to Clare this afternoon. It was a second successive defeat for the Banner County.

Four points from Chloe Moloney gave Clare a slender one point lead at the interval. They were ahead midway through the second half before the Lilywhites made a fightback.

Roisin Byrne (3) and Neasa Dooley (2) kicked over scores for Diane O’Hora’s side as they remain top of the division.

Louth 2-10 Sligo 2-09

Louth survived a Sligo comeback to record their third win of the campaign and remain second in the table.

Louth made a fine start to the game and were five points ahead after 17 minutes. The lead was nine going in at half-time; Kate Flood with 1-3 for the Wee County.

Sligo were a different proposition after the break and goals from Leah Duffy and Rachel O’Brien brought them back into the game but they were unable to get the vital equaliser their second half performance deserved. They are bottom of the table with no points.

Longford 2-10 Offaly 1-10

Longford picked up their first win of the campaign with a three point win over Offaly at Killoe this afternoon.

The sides were level at the break 1-5 apiece. Lauren McGuire with the Longford goal while Ciara Walsh raised the green flag for Offaly.

Longford opened a six point lead in the second half with a goal from Clodagh Lohan. Offaly cut the gap to three near the end as Longford moved off the bottom of the table with this win.
