Review: Lidl NFL Div 1 Week 3

Aoife O’Rourke earned Galway a share of the spoils against Meath this afternoon when she kicked over a late free. Dublin held back a stunning Cork fightback to come away from Páirc Ui Rinn with a hard earned win.

Kerry 2-10 Donegal 1-11

Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh’s 55th minute penalty proved to be the difference as Kerry recorded a narrow win over Donegal. It’s three wins from three for the Kingdom.

Ni Mhuircheartaigh scored 1-08 for Kerry, as did Susanne White for the Donegal side who are bottom of the division and without a point.

Donegal put it up to their opponents and trailed by two at the break. Kerry got a run on the Ulster side in the second half and were five up after the penalty.

Waterford 2-09 Mayo 0-13

Two goals from the boot of Lauren McGregor saw Waterford pick up their first win of the league campaign and leave Mayo still searching for their first points.

McGregor scored her first goal just before half-time to give the Deise a 1-6 to 0-4 lead. Just three minutes had gone on the clock when McGregor grabbed her second goal.

Waterford were ahead by six on a number of occasions. Mayo made a fightback near the end with six points in a row but Waterford had done enough to record a good win.

Meath 0-09 Galway 0-09

Substitute Aoife O’Rourke kicked over a late free to keep Galway’s unbeaten run intact in a pulsating game in Navan against All-Ireland Senior champions Meath.

It was a low scoring affair but with plenty of quality produced by both sides. There was just one between the sides at the break with Galway 0-3 to 0-2 in front.

Galway held the lead for most of the second half; Katie Slevin leading the way for the Connacht side. Three points in a row edged Meath ahead with time running out but O’Rourke fired over a point to earn a share of the spoils for her side.

Cork 3-15 Dublin 4-13

A pointed free from Carla Rowe helped Dublin to a hard earned win over Cork in an absorbing game of football in Páirc Uí Rinn.

Five down in the early exchanges, goals from Rowe and Caoimhe O’Connor turned the game in Dublin’s favour in the 19th minute. Further goals from Hannah Tyrrell and Kate Sullivan saw the Dubs lead by 10 at the break.

Cork made a terrific fightback in the second half and a point from Katie Quirke with five minutes to give Shane Ronayne’s side the lead. Two frees from Rowe saw Dublin come away with the win.
