Review: Lidl NFL Div 1 Week 2

Galway recorded a nine point win over Dublin at Tuam Stadium while Mayo and Donegal still remain without a win after Round 2 of Division 1.

Mayo 0-13 Kerry 3-05

For the second week in a row Kerry had to dig deep to record a win. Second half goals from Síofra O’Shea, Lorraine Scanlon and Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh gave the Kingdom another one point win.

Mayo will feel disappointed they got nothing out of the game as they put in a decent performance in the second half but the goals proved to be the difference.

Kerry dominated large spells of the opening half and had a narrow one point lead going in at the break – 0-05 to 0-04.

Donegal 0-05 Meath 1-07

Defending league champions Meath picked up their first win of the campaign with five points to spare over Donegal on Saturday afternoon.

There was nothing between the sides in the opening half and it was level going in at the interval 0-03 apiece. A goal from Mary Kate Lynch midway through the second half changed the game in Meath’s favour.

Donegal failed to get a goal of their own. Meath were able to claim the win despite Máire O’Shaughnessy being sin binned late in the game.

Galway 1-13 Dublin 0-07

Galway top Division one following their nine point win over Dublin in Tuam. In an excellent second half display Leanne Coen scored the only goal of the game.

Dublin struggled to contain the Tribeswomen with Róisín Leonard and Kate Slevin scoring three points apiece for the home side. Hannah Tyrrell kicked over four points for the Dubs in the game.

Galway were ahead by two at half-time – 0-06 to 0-04 and upped their game in the second half and the Dubs were no match for them.

Waterford 2-09 Cork 2-09

A late free from Katie Quirke earned Cork a draw away to Waterford in an exciting encounter in Piltown this afternoon.

Goals from Annie Fitzgerald and Lauren McGregor gave the Deise an early seven point lead but Cork were back in the game with a goal from Daire Kiely. They trailed at the break 2-04 to 1-03.

A goal from Erika O’Shea at the start of the second half brought Cork back into the game. The game ebbed and flowed after that. Waterford looked like securing a first win of the campaign but Quirke struck late for Cork.
