Preview: Lidl NFL Division 3 Round 5

Things are tight at the top and bottom of the Division 3 table. Leaders Roscommon welcome Wexford to Kiltoom on Sunday. Wexford are three points behind the Rossies. Down the other end it’s a bottom of the table clash in Belfast between Antrim and Sligo. The Saffrons are still without a point while Sligo are just ahead of them on one point. A huge game for both sides.

Roscommon v Wexford, Sun 3rd Mar, Kiltoom, 1pm

Division 3 leaders welcome Wexford to Kiltoom on Sunday. Roscommon have been impressive so far and have won three out of their four games, drawing with Clare in the other.

The Rossies had a fine win over neighbours Sligo in their last game. Wexford came from behind to draw with Louth in their last game; Aoife Cullen with the equalising point for Wexford.

These two sides met in the league last year with Wexford coming out on top by just one point. The year before they humbled Roscommon in the Intermediate Championship. Roscommon will be a different proposition on Sunday.

Antrim v Sligo, Sun 3rd Mar, Davitt Park, 2pm

A bottom of the table clash in Belfast on Sunday. Antrim are bottom having yet to register a point while Sligo are just above them; they picked up one point against Offaly.

The Saffrons were beaten by their neighbours Down in their last game. It was their fourth defeat. They must wonder when they’ll pick up points. Sligo were beaten at home by their neighbours Roscommon.

It has been a big step-up for Antrim since their promotion from Division 4 last year. With three games left they need to pick up points. Sligo are in the same position too.

Louth v Clare, Sun 3rd Mar, Stabannon Parnells, 2pm

Clare lie second in the table, just behind leaders Roscommon on score difference. Louth are six points behind the Banner County.

In their last game Louth were held to a draw by Wexford. They also ended the game with 14 players. Clare had a four point win over Offaly in their last game. Ailish Considine scored 1-01 and she is a huge player to have back for Wayne Freeman’s side.

Clare had a fine win over Louth last year when they met in the league. They’ll want to continue with their good start to the season and push for a place in the Division 3 Final.

Offaly v Down, Sun 3rd Mar, Edenderry, 2pm

Offaly suffered their first league defeat in their last game against Clare. They’ll want to bounce back when they take on Down in Edenderry.

Down picked up a good three points in their last game against neighbours Antrim in Belfast. Both themselves and Offaly have won two league games. The Mourne County are just one point behind Offaly.

Down had a big win over Offaly last year in the league but this year’s meeting will be a lot tighter. Both sides will be hopeful of a win.
