Preview: Lidl NFL Division 2 Round 2

Plenty of interesting clashes in Division 2 this weekend. Kildare will look to build on their win at home to Monaghan last weekend when they travel to Donegal. The Ulster side had a good win over Laois last weekend.

In Omagh two sides who would like to push for promotion met when Tyrone entertain Tipperary. Tipp had a fine win over Tyrone last year but it’ll be a lot closer this year.

Donegal v Kildare, Sun 28th Jan, Letterkenny, 12pm

This is a big game for Kildare and a chance to see how far they’ve come. After being relegated from Division 1 last year, Donegal will want to bounce back. Getting wins at home will be important to them.

Last weekend Donegal had a four point win over Laois. Laois failed to score in the opening half of that game.

Kildare recorded a home win over Monaghan last weekend. An early goal from Roisin Byrne set the Lilywhites on their way. They know they’ll have to up their game if they are to take anything away from Letterkenny.

Tyrone v Tipperary, Sun 28th Jan, O’Neills Healy Park, 1.45pm

Two sides who recorded opening day wins, clash in Omagh. Tyrone were impressive as they defeated Westmeath. It’s another home game for Tyrone and they’ll want this to their advantage again.

Tipperary got the better of Cavan last weekend in what was a low scoring game. Emma Morrissey got the only goal of the game against a poor Cavan side.

When the sides met in the league last year Tipperary had an excellent win over Tyrone. It will be a lot closer this year.

Cavan v Laois, Sun 28th Jan, Knockbride, 2pm

These two sides struggled last weekend in their opening fixtures. Cavan only kicked two points in their five point defeat to Tipperary while Laois were beaten by four points by Donegal; they only kicked three points.

With every point valuable in a tight Division 2, this is an important game for both sides. Cavan will hope that home advantage will help.

The last time these two sides met was in the All-Ireland Senior Football relegation final. Laois won the game by two points and thus relegated Cavan to the Intermediate Championship.

Monaghan v Westmeath, 28th Jan, Castleblayney, 2pm

After losing their opening day fixtures Monaghan and Westmeath will be out to pick up their first points of the campaign when they clash in Castleblayney.

Monaghan were defeated away to Kildare last weekend. They’ll be happy to be at home this weekend as they welcome the Lake County.

Westmeath are on the road again, last weekend they lost to Tyrone in Omagh. They’ll hope to bounce back this weekend. It’ll be a tough battle between two sides that want to be near the top of the table.
