Match Report
Despite a late Leitrim comeback, Wexford booked their place in the All Ireland Semi-Finals, with a three point win in Chadwicks Wexford Park. Leah Fox hit the net with five minutes to go, leaving three between them, but Wexford were resilient in the back, despite not scoring after the 52nd minute, they held out to take the win in the South East. Chloe Fox was the star for Wexford however, of their 2-10 haul, she kicked 2-7, the main catalyst for Wexford getting over the line in another tough battle with Leitrim, despite Michelle Guckian’s nine point haul, for the second year in a row they suffer defeat to Wexford. Bernie Breen and Caitriona Murray hit the front for Wexford, but Fox and Guckian were quick to reply and tie the game after 12 minutes, Leitrim then hit the front seconds later as AIlbhe Clancy fired a shot into the Wexford net, putting the Connacht side three ahead. Guckian and Fox both exchanged scores, but the next score proved pivotal for Wexford as Fox got the breakthrough to find the net and tie the contest 1-3 to 1-3, the Wexford forward had 1-2 scored by the 20th minute mark, as they were ahead by a point. Guckian however found the posts on two separate occasion to propel Leitrim back into a one point lead, but Fox was a thorn in the side for Leitrim, she nailed two points at the end of the half to put Wexford back ahead, but Murray was shown a yellow for a high challenge and Guckian slotted the free to level matters at the break, 1-6 a piece. Fox was quick to put Wexford ahead in the second half but Guckian was also quick to reply seven minutes later, however the second goal arrived on the 40th minute mark as Ciara Banville put the momentum with her side as they moved three clear. Guckian hit two further points as she nailed a 45, but that left two between them as Fox sent another fine point over at the end of the third quarter. Fox really put the result in Wexford hands in the 51st minute, she netted her second goal and after AIsling Murphy and Fox herself added points, they were ahead 3-10 to 1-9. But a grandstand finish occurred as Leah Fox goaled and Guckian kicked her ninth point of the tie in the final minutes, three between them but the home side dug deep and held firm to take the result, they meet Kildare in two weeks, a repeat of the Leinster Intermediate Final, which they lost.Fox Inspires Wexford To Semi Final Berth
