Preview: D4 Allianz Football League

Round five of Division Four is upon us, and as the league campaign nears its finale, the race for promotion is hotting up.

Cavan can edge closer to a return to Division Three with a win over Tipperary. However, Tipperary won’t let their opponents have it all their own way as they mount a late charge for promotion.

London and Sligo battle it out in the race for second, while Leitrim take on Carlow as they look to generate some form heading into the Championship.

Sligo v London, Markievicz Park, Sunday 20th March 2022, 12 noon

With London a couple of points ahead of them, Sligo know they can afford a third defeat on the bounce. A London win would move them four points ahead of Sligo and three of Tipperary with two games to go should Tipperary lose to Cavan.

They probably cost themselves the game against Wexford and Michael Maher would have been making sure London heads are fully focused for this week’s assignment.

Carlow v Leitrim, Netwatch Cullen Park, Sunday 20th March 2022, 2pm

Carlow have improved after a poor start which included a thrashing at the hands of Sligo. A win lifted Carlow head but they face a tough task in the form of Leitrim.

Leitrim should have more than enough to beat Carlow on Sunday. The main worry for Carlow would be how to mark Keith Beirne who has impressed this season for Leitrim.

Wexford v Waterford, Chadwicks Wexford Park, Sunday 20th March 2022, 2pm

Mark Rossiter and John Tubritt will be looking to carry on their fine form they’ve recently found and if everything clicks then they will cause Waterford problems.

Waterford currently sit rock bottom of the table and it’s likely they’ll struggle against this resurgent Wexford side.

Cavan v Tipperary, Kingspan Breffni Park, Sunday 20th March 2022, 2pm

Cavan are racing towards an immediate return to Division Three but Tipperary won’t make Sunday easy for them.

Conor Sweeney has been on fire for the men from Munster but hasn’t had the support needed from Tipp’s attack at times this season.

Gearóid McKiernan is the threat that Tipperary needs to watch in particular as well as Paddy Lynch.
