Roundup: Lidl NFL Division 3 Round 6

Fidelma Marrinan scored 4-04 for Clare as they gained promotion to Division 2 with a comprehensive win at home to Antrim.

The relegation battle goes down to the final day with Sligo, Antrim and Louth all battling to avoid relegation to Division 4.

Wexford 3-07 Sligo 1-07

Wexford will play in Division 3 again next year following this six point win over Sligo. Sligo are still bottom of the table and face into a winner takes all game with Louth next weekend.

Scores were at a premium in the opening half. The sides were level one point apiece before Caoilfhionn Ni Nuallain scored a goal for Wexford. They went in at half-time in front by two points.

Four minutes into the second half and Sligo were level. Chloe Fox scored a second goal for Wexford in the 46th minute. One minute later Ni Nuallain scored her second and her side’s score. There was no way back for Sligo.

Clare were promoted to Division 3 following a comprehensive win over Antrim. It’s now down to the final day if Antrim are going to survive the drop back down to Division 4.

The home side were ruthless in the opening half and scored seven of their goals in that half. Teresa Collins scored a hat-trick, Fidelma Marrinan two, while Caoimhe Harvey and Katie Mullen also raised the green flag in that opening half.

Clare didn’t let up with the scoring after the break. Ailish Considine scored their eighth goal while Marrinan finished the game with 4-4 when she grabbed two more goals for the Banner County.

Down 4-12 Louth 2-06

Down recorded their fourth win of the campaign with a fine win over Louth. For Louth they face into a final day relegation battle against bottom side Sligo.

Down made a great start to the game and opened up an early six point lead. A goal from Natasha Ferris extended their lead to 10 points. They were ahead 2-09 to 1-04 at half-time.

Niamh King grabbed the third goal for the Mourne County and Vivienne McComack scored their fourth as Down ran out winners by 12 points.

Roscommon 1-11 Offaly 1-10

Roscommon gained promotion to Division 2 with a hard fought win over Offaly. The Faithful County had a penalty saved near the end.

Twice in the opening half the Rossies were ahead by three points. Offaly got a goal in the 20th minute to edge ahead. Laura Fleming replied with a goal for the home side. The Rossies were ahead by two at the interval.

Roscommon were back ahead by three in the 38th minute but credit to Offaly they came back at them and drew level in the near the end. But there was time for late drama
