Preview: Lidl NFL Division 1 Round 6

It’s all to play for in Division 1 at both the top and bottom of the table. Armagh have already booked their place in the Division 1 Final, with Kerry, Meath and Dublin all hoping to make the final too. Meath and Kerry is the big game at the top of the table.

Down at the bottom of the table three teams are on three points. The meeting of Galway and Waterford is a huge game for both sides as they avoid the drop to Division 2.

Dublin v Cork, Sat 16th Mar, DCU St. Clare’s, 4.30pm

Two sides who need the points for two different reasons. With two games remaining Dublin can still qualify for the Division 1 Final; if they win their games and hope Kerry and Meath drop points.

Cork are bottom of the table; level on points with Waterford and Galway. With two sides being relegated the pressure is on them.

In their last game Dublin had a three point win over a spirited Waterford side while Cork lost to Mayo at home. These two sides have had fierce battles down through the years. This game will be no different with so much to play for.

Mayo v Armagh, Sun 17th Mar, Ballina Stephenites, 1pm

Mayo are still not safe from relegation. Armagh come into this game top of the table, unbeaten and with a 100% record. A point would see them book their place in the Division 1 Final.

Mayo had a good win over Cork in their last game, it gave their survival chances a big boost. Armagh defeated Kerry in Armagh. The Orchard County have been very impressive in the league.

The last time these two sides met was in the All-Ireland Championship last year which Armagh won by two points. They’ll be out to keep their record intact while Mayo will want a result that consolidates their place in Division 1 for next year.

Galway v Waterford, Sun 17th Mar, Pearse Stadium, 3pm

A massive game down at the bottom of the table. Galway are in 6th place and Waterford are in 7th, score difference separates the two sides. With two games remaining a win for either side would be a huge boost.

Galway picked up their first win of the league in their last game; a big performance saw them defeat Meath in Ballinasloe. Waterford lost to Dublin in their last game but battled well.

The Tribeswomen will be buoyed up by that result against Meath and know if they can put in a repeat performance they can get a positive result. Waterford though will certainly put it up to them.

Meath v Kerry, Sun 17th Mar, Ashbourne, 3pm

Two teams that are vying for a place in the Division 1 Final. Kerry lie in 2nd place in the table, while Meath lie one point behind them in 3rd place. They are level on points with Dublin.

The Royal County fell to a surprising defeat to Galway in their last game and will want to bounce back from that, particularly with a home game. Kerry suffered their first defeat in the league in their last game when they were beaten by tabletoppers Armagh.

A big game is in store in Ashbourne and both sides will want to put in a good performance if they are to pick up the three points.
