Preview: Allianz NFL Div 4 Week 3

Wicklow go in search of their first win while Sligo will look to push for promotion this weekend. Leitrim set out to defend their position as league leaders as Laois look to continue their undefeated run and challenge the Ridge County.

Wicklow v London, 13:00 @ Echelon Park, Saturday 18th February

Wicklow enter round 3 with just a single point on the board after a disappointing start. The Leinster side will be looking to overcome their loss to Sligo last time out by recording a win over Exiles.

London are on a single point themselves though they do not have to meet the same expectations as Wicklow, who played Division 3 football last year. The Ruislip outfit will come looking for their first win of the campaign after their loss to Leitrim two weekends ago.

The Exiles failed to keep their cool in that encounter and had two men sent off. They’ll need to do better if they are to put it up to Oisin McConville’s Wicklow in Aughrim.

Sligo v Waterford, 13:00 @ Markievicz Park, Sunday 19th February

Sligo will be heavy favourites when they host bottom-ranked Waterford on Sunday. After a loss in the first round, the Yeats County overcame Wicklow by six points to show their promotion credentials.

Waterford have suffered defeat in their opening two games and are in desperate need of something to give them hope. They came close to Carlow two weeks ago but couldn’t find goal to put pressure on their opponent.

The Deise will feel they are destined to another basement finish unless they can grasp something at Markievicz.

Wexford v Leitrim, 14:00 @ Chadwicks Wexford Park, Sunday 19th February

Wexford endured defeat at the hands of the in-form Laois in the second round and face another tough fixture this weekend in the shape of high-flying Leitrim.

The Ridge County sit top of the fourth division on points difference and will fancy their chances of going a third game unbeaten ahead of their trip to Wexford.

The Connacht side defeated the Model County on a scoreline of 3-9 to 1-11 at Pairc Sean Mc Diarmada last season although it could be a tighter affair away from home. If Wexford can stop this Leitrim side from netting goals, they’ll have a good chance of earning a result.

Carlow v Laois, 14:00 @ Netwatch Cullen Park, Sunday 19th February

Carlow remain unbeaten after an opening-round draw with Wicklow was followed by a win over Waterford two weekends back. They will face their most challenging tie yet when they host Laois, who are also undefeated, on Sunday.

Laois have been on song since their relegation from the third tier and look to be headed straight back if their recent form is anything to go by. Wins over Sligo and Laois have seen them into second place (behind Leitrim on points difference) and a third victory in a row would do their promotion hopes no harm.

This fixture will see two of Division 4’s most potent forwards go head-to-head as Paul Kingston (2nd, 2-13) leads the line for Wicklow while Darragh Foley (4th, 2-11) will look to keep Carlow ticking.
