Match Report

Experienced Dubs book All Ireland Final Spot

Cormac Costello and Brian Fenton starred for the Dubs as they ran out seven point winners over a valiant Monaghan in Croke Park to book their spot in the All Ireland Final.

Conor McManus kicked six for Monaghan in a real spirited performance in a game that was level with ten to go but the Dubs ability to finish a game in the crucial moments shone through once more with 1-05 scored in the final ten minutes.

Dublin now await to see if a 2022 Semi Final rematch with Kerry awaits or if they face a new test against Ulster Champions Derry in the Final in two weeks time with those sides battling tomorrow at 4pm.

Dublin roared out of the block and kicked three of the four points with Cormac Costello getting a strong hold of the game for the boys in blue early on.

Monaghan flipped the momentum with the first big chance to raise the green flag. Conor McCarthy struck the post after Fenton dragged him down mid shooting attempt. McManus added the free as a result of the advantage.

Niall Scully picked up a black card half way through the first half, but Dublin won out the man advantage with Costello twice, Basquel and Mannion pointing for the designated away side with Beggan twice and Bannigan at the end of the ten minutes leaving Dublin up by two.

The Farney men did not drop heads though, as Mohan and once again Rory Beggan pointed to the roar of the travelling supporters as the game was level heading towards the break.

Cormac Costello picked up his fifth point of the first half right on the break through a free that put the Dubs up by one at half time.

Monaghan levelled the game through McAnespie after the interval to set up a real cracking second half.

Cormac Costello and Con O’Callaghan put some daylight between the sides with the duo picking up three of the next four points in the game to put the Dubs two ahead.

Conor McManus kicked four points on the trot for Monaghan as they found themselves level with ten minutes on the clock but Dublin with an incredible bench began to show their superpower status to put their opponents to the sword.

Brian Fenton really stepped up to the plate in the second half, taking control when his side needed it and added a point to put his side ahead once more.

Rory Beggans kick out when straight back to the Dubs which really killed Monaghan momentum with Mannion pointing as a result. Jack McCaffery added a point a minute later to make it a gap of three.

Jack McCarron who was listed as a start for Monaghan came on and kicked off his right with great composure to bring it back to two and give his side some life but that was killed off by the ruthless Dubs very quickly.

Brian Fenton kicked a stunning pointed free off his left down by the sideline to bring it back to a goal's width on the scoreboard as it ticked red.

Up stepped none other than Dean Rock from the Dublin bench to come in for added time, and the three time all star added a point from a free and a comical goal finish in the five extra minutes to seal a seven point win and an All Ireland Final spot for the Dubs.
