Roundup: Lidl NFL Div3

Just two games went ahead in Division 3 today. In Division 3A Roscommon picked up their first win with a hard fought one point win over Louth while in Division 3B Wexford and Wicklow played out a low scoring draw with Wicklow’s Marie Kealy earning her side a share of the spoils.

Lidl Ladies Football League Division 3A

Louth 2-4 Roscommon 2-5

Roscommon bounced back from their defeat to Down last weekend to inflict a one point defeat on Louth at Cooley Kickhams Grounds. 

The Rossies made a good start to the game and were ahead by two at the break – 1-03 to 1-01. Jenny Higgins scored the Roscommon goal while Laura Collins scored Louth’s. The wee county cut the gap to one within the opening minute of the second half but Roscommon replied with Aishling Hanley scoring her side’s second goal.

Roscommon were ahead by six in the 57th minute. Louth staged a late rally with substitute Niamh Woods grabbing their second goal but couldn’t draw level as Roscommon held on for the win.

Lidl Ladies Football League Division 3B

Wicklow 1-3 Wexford 0-6

Marie Kealy earned Wicklow a point as they drew with Wexford in Aughrim. It was both side’s first points of the campaign having lost their opening games.

Played in tough conditions Wexford hit over two early points but three unanswered points saw Wicklow hold a slender one point lead at half-time – 0-03 to 0-02.

With 10 minutes remaining the Garden County held a two point lead but Wexford grabbed a goal and took the lead in the 54th minute. In the last minute Kealy popped up to earn Wicklow a draw.
