Review: Allianz NFL Div 4 Week 4

Wexford continued their good run of form while Wicklow caused a major upset in the latest round of Division Four matches. Wins for Sligo and Leitrim saw the Connacht sides continue to excel at this level.

Waterford 1-6 Wexford 2-12 @ Carriganore

Wexford earned a second win on the bounce in the fourth division with a nine point win over Waterford at Fraher Field.

Despite an early Darragh Corcoran goal for the Deise, Wexford would leapfrog their Munster opponents over the course of the first half to lead 1-5 to 1-3 at the interval.

The Slaney men really got going in the second half and a Brian Molloy goal sent them ahead by nine points before the 50th minute. Conor Murray was sent off for the frustrated hosts on 65 minutes to further the advantage of Wexford, who now look set to challenge for promotion.

Laois 2-10 Wicklow 2-12 @ O’Moore Park

Wicklow struck a blow to the O’Moore County’s promotion charge with a two point victory on the road.

The Garden County trailed Laois by a single point at half-time and despite two points notched by their hosts early in the second half,  Oisin McConville’s outfit would tally six points in a row to burst ahead.

Laois leveled proceedings with seven minutes remaining but points from Eoin Darcy and Dean Hely were complemented by a JP Hurley goal to see Wicklow beat the odds and cause a serious upset in the bottom division.

London 0-6 Sligo 1-10 @ McGovern Park

Sligo made it three wins in a row in the fourth tier after recording an eight point victory across the water.

The Yeats County led London on a scoreline of 1-6 to 0-3 at half time and would limit their wasteful opponents to the same tally in the second half.

Sligo had far from a 100% shots to scores record in this one but outscored the Exiles by point to bring home another valuable victory in their quest for promotion.

Leitrim 2-22 Carlow 0-13 @  Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada

Leitrim got back on track with a decisive win over Carlow at home on Sunday.

The Ridge County struck first half goals through Jack Heslin and Keith Beirne and led 2-7 to 0-8 at the interval. The Connacht side would go on to dominate affairs in the second half with star man Beirne, who tallied 1-11 in total, leading the way as usual.

Darragh Foley (0-10) was a force for Carlow but his scores couldn’t carry Leinster side within reach of their opponents.
