Preview: Allianz NFL Div 1 Week 4

The Rossies travel North in the hope maintaining their position at the summit of the top-flight while all seven of the remaining teams go in search of a second league win.

Kerry v Armagh, Austin Stack Park @ 17:00, Saturday 25th February

After a harsh loss to Mayo last week the Kingdom will be looking for their second league win on home soil. Their last victory came over Monaghan in Killarney and this time the All-Ireland holders will line out in the tight surroundings of Tralee.

Armagh have a point more than Kerry but narrowly lost to high-flying Roscommon in the last round. The fixture saw the Orchard County lose out as they failed to find the goal that their opponents did.

They’ll need more cutting edge on the road this week. In similar circumstances to their last game, Armagh lost out by a  goal when Kerry travelled up to the Athletic Grounds last year.

Mayo v Tyrone, MacHale Park @ 19:00, Saturday 25th February

Mayo were on top form last weekend to see away Kerry by seven points. A similar performance at MacHale may well see them past the visiting Tyrone.

The Red Hands have just the one win this season and know they’ll need more if they are to stay afloat in the top-flight for next year. Three points was the deficit as they lost to Galway and they’ll hope to fair better against another Connacht opponent.

The form is good, with Tyrone having beaten Mayo 0-11 0-9 at Healy Park last year. It could be a different story in Castlebar, however.

Donegal v Galway, Letterkenny @ 12:30, Sunday 26th February

The Tir Chonaill currently sit bottom of the league on points difference. That may be enough to spring them into action against Galway this weekend.

The Tribesmen weren’t able to get anything over their provincial rivals in the opening two rounds but did beat an Ulster side last week in Tyrone. The omens are good, therefore, for another Maroon victory on Sunday.

Despite their form, expect Donegal to put in a determined performance in front of their home crowd. The north-Westerners won’t like being bottom of the table.

Monaghan v Roscommon, Clones @ 14:30, Sunday 26th February

Monaghan will have been happy to get off the mark against Donegal in the third round but they now face into a tie with the league leaders. With home advantage, the Farney will definitely contend.

High-flying Roscommon are two points clear at the top of the division and Davy Burke’s men will have no intention of easing up this weekend. A vital goal saw the Rossies edge past Armagh at Dr. Hyde Park last week to maintain their unbeaten record.

Last year’s Division Two winners will be slight favourites for this one but Monaghan are sure to be a formidable side in front of their home support.
