Preview: Lidl NFL Division 4 Round 6

It’s the penultimate weekend in Division 4 and some interesting games taking place. Carlow have impressed this campaign and sit in 3rd place in the table. They are still unbeaten and welcome Leitrim to the SETU Carlow Campus on Sunday.

After five games on the road Longford play their first game at home this Sunday when they welcome Wicklow to Glennon Brothers Pearse Park. Lying in 4th in the table, the Midlanders will want to remain there and in with a chance of claiming a place in the Division 4 semi-finals.

Carlow v Leitrim, Sun 25th Feb, SETU Carlow Campus, 12.30pm

It’s 3rd versus 2nd in Carlow on Sunday. The home sides have been impressive so far this year. Carlow and leaders Fermanagh are the only two sides unbeaten in the division.

Last weekend Carlow defeated neighbours Wicklow. They scored all three of their goals in the first half to give themselves an eight point lead at the break. Leitrim got back to winning ways last weekend with a fine win at home to Limerick.

Carlow will want to keep their unbeaten record intact while Leitrim will want to register their fifth win of the campaign. A good battle is in store.

Derry v Kilkenny, Sun 25th Feb, St. Martin’s Desertmartin, 2pm

A bottom of the table clash between two sides who have yet to register a point so far in the campaign.

Last weekend Kilkenny suffered a very heavy defeat to leaders Fermanagh. Derry lost out at home to Longford but put up a credible performance in the second half.

The two sides met in Group B of Division 4 last year with Derry recording a 10 point win over Kilkenny. They have shown glimpses in games and should pick up their first points.

Limerick v Fermanagh, Sun 25th Feb, Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale, 2pm

Limerick are just out of the Top 4 on score difference, following their defeat to Leitrim last weekend and Longford’s win over Derry. That loss away to Leitrim was their first of the campaign.

Leaders Fermanagh are unbeaten, so far. Last weekend they were clinical in front of goals as they inflicted a heavy defeat on Kilkenny. As well as potent in the forward line they have a tight defence.

These two sides have had good battles over the last number of years. Their last meeting was the All-Ireland Junior semi-final last year which Limerick won. Fermanagh will be out to avenge that result.

Longford v Wicklow, Sun 25th Feb, Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, 3.30pm

After losing their opening game to Fermanagh, Longford have been unbeaten in their last four games. Last weekend they defeated Derry to move into the Top 4.

Wicklow lost to Carlow last weekend, after picking up their first win of the campaign the week before with victory over Derry.

The two sides last met in 2022 in Division 3 with Longford recording a six point win in Aughrim. They’ll hope to repeat that result on Sunday and keep up their push for a place in the Division 4 semi-finals.
