Preview: Lidl NFL Div 1 Week 6

Galway can book their place in the league final with victory over Connacht neighbours Mayo on Sunday while there is a battle at the other end of the table to avoid finishing in the relegation play-off spot.

Donegal v Dublin, Fri 17th Mar, Letterkenny, 2pm

Donegal are bottom of Division 1 without a point and look certain to be in the relegation play-off. Dublin are third in the table and could reach the league final if they win their final two games and other results go their way.

Last time out Donegal fell to a heavy defeat away to Cork, in that game they scored just one point. They are missing a number of players and are struggling without them. Dublin came from behind late on to claim a narrow win over Mayo in their last game.

The last time these two sides met was the All-Ireland quarter-final last year where Donegal knocked Dublin out of the championship.

Cork v Kerry, Fri 17th Mar, Páirc Uí Chaoimh, 4pm

Munster derbies are always tight contests and this game will be no different. Kerry are top of the table, unbeaten and booked their place in the league final last month with victory over Meath.

Cork are in 4th spot in the table and have had a mixed league campaign. They have put up big scores in recent games. Their last match was a comprehensive win over Donegal.

Kerry are the team to beat and have signaled their intent for the rest of the year. They’ll hope to keep their unbeaten run going with a good result against their rivals.

Meath v Waterford, Sun 19th Mar, Ballinlough, 2pm

Meath are just one point off the relegation play-off spot and will want to move away from the bottom two with a win over Waterford. Waterford are just ahead of Meath in the table, three points separate the two sides.

The Royals fell to their third loss in their last game, Kerry gaining revenge for last year’s All-Ireland final defeat. After two wins in a row, Waterford fell to Galway in their last game.

Both sides will be hoping to bounce back from those defeats with victory on Sunday in Ballinlough.

Mayo v Galway, Sun 19th Mar, MacHale Park, 2pm

A Connacht derby where a victory is vital for either side. Mayo currently sit in the relegation play-off spot but are just one point behind Meath. Galway lie 2nd in the table and victory can book their place in the league final.

Mayo have lost four games so far, while Galway, like leaders Kerry, are unbeaten and they’ll hope to maintain that record on Sunday.

In their previous game Mayo let a six point half-time lead slip as they lost to Dublin while Galway had a five point win away to Waterford.
