Preview: Lidl NFL Div 2 Week 6

With Armagh through to the final, Tipperary and Laois battle it out for second spot, while Cavan are also pushing for the same position, Armagh could know their opposition in the final this week, or it could be left to next weekend. It’s tight down at the bottom with every point vital.

Tipperary v Tyrone, Sun 19th Mar, Fethard, 1pm

Tipperary currently lie 2nd in the table and will want to move closer to securing a place in the league final with victory over Tyrone. If results go their way they could book their place this afternoon.

After losing their only game of the campaign, so far, Tipp bounced back in their last game to claim a seven point win away to Monaghan.

Tyrone need at least a point to avoid being in the relegation play-off for the second year in a row. In their last game they had a hard fought win away to Westmeath.

Laois v Cavan, Sun 19th Mar, Crettyard, 2pm

Laois can make the league final if they win their final two games and Tipperary drop three points. If they are to achieve that they’ll have to overcome a stubborn Cavan side who have grinded out results in recent games.

Cavan have won their last three games and have claimed victory in dramatic fashion in all three, getting a very late winner. They showed real resilience in all those games.

Laois fell to their second defeat of the campaign in their last game, losing by five points away to leaders Armagh. They’ll want to get back to winning ways against Cavan but will be up against stern opposition.

Monaghan v Roscommon, Sun 19th Mar, Smithborough, 2pm

A clash between the bottom two and they could meet again in a few week’s time in a relegation play-off.

Roscommon lie bottom of the table with no points. They have battled and fought hard in games but came up short. In their last game they were denied a point when Cavan scored a late winning point.

Monaghan lie just three points ahead of Roscommon. They have won just one game; that was against their Ulster rivals Tyrone. A win could be crucial if results go their way and it could leave them setting up a showdown with Westmeath in their final game.

Armagh v Westmeath, Sun 19th Mar, Athletic Grounds, 2pm

Armagh lead the way in Division 2. They are unbeaten and in their last game booked their place in the league final with a comprehensive win over Laois.

Westmeath are at the wrong end of the table and will hope to pick up something against the leaders. In their last game they fell to a narrow defeat at home to Tyrone.

The Orchard County will want to maintain their winning run in the Division. They were superb in their last game against Laois. They will provide a huge test for the Lake County.
