Roundup: Lidl NFL Division 1 Round 6

Armagh advanced to the Division 1 Final for the first time ever with a narrow win over Mayo in Ballina. The superb Aimee Mackin with a late point to claim the win for the Orchard County.

Kerry put in an impressive performance as they defeated Meath by 13 points at Ashbourne. Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh scored 0-08 for the Kingdom.

Dublin 2-11 Cork 0-06

Dublin recorded a fantastic win at home to Cork on Saturday afternoon. The defeat left Cork still bottom of the table with just one game remaining.

It was Cork that opened the scoring in the game. Dublin got their first goal in the 19th minute through Caoimhe O’Connor. The Dubs were four ahead at the break – 1-05 to 0-04.

Sinead Aherne and Nicole Owens were introduced in the second half by Mick Bohan. Kate Sullivan grabbed Dublin’s second goal in the 47th minute. Cork didn’t score in the second half until the 56th minute. They scored their second near the end as they fell to their fifth defeat of the campaign.

Mayo 2-08 Armagh 2-09

A free from the boot of Aimee Mackin booked Armagh their place in the Division 1 final with a narrow win over Mayo in Ballina.

Armagh made a great start to the game and held a 2-05 to 0-02 lead at the break. Mackin and Aoife McCoy with the goals for the Orchard County in the opening half. 

Credit to Mayo they made a game of it in the second half. Sinead Walsh and substitute Saoirse Delaney scored second half goals for the home side. Aoife Geraghty drew the game level before Mackin fired over to grab a late win for Armagh.

Meath 0-05 Kerry 1-15

Kerry moved back up to second in the table with an excellent performance against Meath in Ashbourne. Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh scored 0-08 for the Kingdom.

The sides were level in the 10th minute but then Kerry took a hold of the game and were ahead by six at half-time 0-09 to 0-03. The three points for Meath came from the boot of Emma Duggan (all frees).

Kerry were dominant in the second half. The lead was 13 points when Emma Dineen scored a goal. Ní Mhuircheartaigh and Marion Farrelly traded frees as Kerry recorded a fine win.
