Roundup: Lidl NFL Division 1 Round 2

Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh scored 1-04 for Kerry as the reigning league champions made it two wins from two in Division 1. Meath also secured their second win of the campaign when they had a four point win over All-Ireland champions Dublin. Dublin are without a point.

Galway 0-10 Mayo 2-05

Two goals from the boot of Lisa Cafferky saw Mayo record their first win of the league and inflict a second successive defeat on Galway.

Mayo lost Aoife Geraghty in the 14th minute when she was sin binned. Galway went two points ahead but in the 22nd minute Cafferky scored her first goal of the game. There was just one between them going in at half-time – Galway 0-05 Mayo 1-03.

The sides were level twice in the early stages of the second half but then Cafferky got her second goal of the game to put Mayo ahead by three. Galway cut the gap to one but couldn’t get the equalising point as Mayo held on for a fine win.

Cork 1-06 Armagh 1-08

Armagh made it two wins from two when they came away from Páirc Uí Rinn with a two point win over Cork.

Aimee Mackin gave the Orchard County an early lead when she dispatched a penalty but Daire Kiely raised the green flag for Cork to draw them level. A point from Caroline O’Hanlon gave Armagh a one point lead at the break.

Armagh started the second half well and opened up a three point lead. They could’ve grabbed another goal but were denied by the Cork netminder. Aoife McCoy kicked over the final point of the game as Armagh came away from Cork with the win.

Kerry 2-11 Waterford 2-05

Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh came off the bench and scored 1-04 as Kerry recorded their second win of the league.

Waterford had made a great start to the game and early goals from Kellyann Hogan and Mairead O’Brien, and a point from Bríd McMaugh gave them a seven point lead after 11 minutes. Jayden Lucey got a goal back for the Kingdom as the sides went in level at the break.

Kerry were ahead by two after 38 minutes but Waterford replied with three points to regain the lead. Ní Mhuircheartaigh got her first point since her introduction in the 56th minute. She added a further 1-03 to the score as Waterford had no answer.

Meath 2-05 Dublin 0-07

Dublin still await their first points of the league campaign as they fell to a second successive defeat. For Meath it’s two wins from two.

Early points were exchanged before Meath took a hold of the game with goals from Meadbh Byrne and Marion Farrelly. The Royal County were reduced to 14 in the 26th minute when Niamh Gallogly was sin binned. They were ahead 2-03 to 0-03 at the interval.

Two frees from Carla Rowe cut the gap to four but Meath replied with a pointed free from Emma Duggan. The Dubs couldn’t get the scores they needed as Meath held on for a deserved win.
