Preview: Lidl NFL Division 1 Round 7

For most in Division 1 it’s the final round of games. Armagh have already booked their place in the league final with Kerry and Dublin hoping to join them there. The big game in Division 1 is the meeting of Armagh and Dublin in Armagh.

Down at the bottom of the table if Cork lose to Meath they will be relegated to Division 2. A win and that still might not be safe.

Armagh v Dublin, Sat 23rd Mar, BOX-IT Athletic Grounds, 2.45pm

Armagh are already through to the Division 1 final while Dublin are still chasing a place. A win for Dublin, and if Kerry fail to defeat Galway, the Dubs will make the final.

The Orchard County are the only team in Division 1 unbeaten and with a 100% record – six wins from six. They’ll no doubt like to finish in front of their home crowd with another win. Last weekend they were pushed all the way by Mayo. Aimee Mackin scored the winning point for them.

Dublin had an excellent win over Cork last weekend. They lost their opening two games but have won their last four. It’ll be an intriguing battle in Armagh.

Mayo v Waterford, Sun 24th Mar, Ballina Stephenites, 2pm

Mayo are safe for another year while Waterford need a win. They have a game in hand with Galway so their fate might not be sealed on Sunday.

Last weekend Mayo lost narrowly to leaders Armagh. It took a late point to seal the win for the Orchard County. They’ll hope to end their campaign at home with a win.

Waterford were due to play Galway in a big game at the bottom of Division 1 last weekend but it was called off. That game could still determine who goes down to Division 2.

Meath v Cork, Sun 24th Mar, Páirc Tailteann, 2pm

A huge game for Cork. They need to win if they have any chance of staying in Division 1. Even then that might not be enough.

Last weekend Meath were defeated at home by Kerry. The Royals struggled to get scores in that game. Out of the five points they scored just one was from play.

The Rebels were defeated by Dublin in their game last weekend and it leaves them with a big task if they are to avoid relegation.

Kerry v Galway, Sun 24th Mar, Fitzgerald Stadium Killarney, 3.45pm

A big game for both sides but for different reasons. A win for the reigning Division 1 Champions will see them advance to the league decider where they will face Armagh. Galway are down near the bottom and need the win if they are to keep their place in Division 1 next year.

Kerry were excellent in their win over Meath last weekend in Ashbourne. Their forwards looked lively while their defence stifled Meath. Their midfield impressed.

Galway had no game last weekend due to the weather. That game with Waterford could determine what division they play in next year. A win would be a huge boost for the Tribeswomen.
