Preview: Lidl NFL Division 1 Round 5

There is a top of the table clash in Armagh on Sunday as leaders Armagh take on Kerry. The Orchard County have four wins from four and have been in excellent form. Kerry’s 100% record was ended with a draw against Mayo in their last game. They’ll want to get back to winning ways.

With three games remaining and two teams being relegated, bottom side Galway know they need to pick up points and hope it’s this weekend against Meath in Ballinasloe. The Tribeswomen are currently pointless.

Cork v Mayo, Sat 2nd Mar, Mallow, 2.30pm

Just one point separates these two sides with three games remaining in Division 1. Cork are second bottom on 3pts while Mayo are in 5th place on 4pts. With two teams being relegated every point is vital.

Last time out Cork were humbled by their neighbours Waterford and they’ll want to bounce back from that defeat. It was a well below par performance from Cork. Mayo came away from Killarney with a point after securing a draw with Kerry.

When these two sides met in the league last year Cork came away from the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence with the win. With both sides having just one win this year, this game will be a tough battle.

Armagh v Kerry, Sun 3rd Mar, BOX-IT Athletic Grounds, 1pm

It’s a top of the table clash in Armagh between leaders Armagh and second place Kerry. Armagh are the only team in Division 1 with a 100% record.

Kerry lost their 100% record in their previous game when they were held to a draw by Mayo. Armagh picked up their fourth win with an excellent result away to Meath. The Orchard County have really impressed, so far.

Two years ago these sides battled it out in the Division 2 Final with Kerry claiming the win. They defeated Armagh in the championship later that year. It’s a home game for the table toppers but this is a big challenge for them.

Galway v Meath, Sun 3rd Mar, Duggan Park, 2pm

Bottom side Galway welcome Meath to Ballinasloe with the hope of registering their first points of the campaign. With just three games remaining the Tribeswomen know they need to pick up points and fast. They are currently pointless.

In their last game Meath lost their first game of the season when they were beaten by Armagh. They’ll hope to bounce back against Galway. Galway suffered the heartbreak of letting victory slip against Dublin in their last game.

When these two sides met last year in the league they played out a draw. Meath have been going well, apart from the Armagh result, while Galway have struggled. The home side have the ability to produce good performances and will want that against Meath.

Waterford v Dublin, Sun 3rd Mar, Fraher Field, 2pm

Waterford picked up their first point of the league campaign with a great win over their neighbours Cork. They thoroughly deserved the win. They’ll want to build on that this weekend with the visit of Dublin.

Dublin came from behind in their last game to claim a win at home to Galway. It moved Mick Bohan’s side up the table. They were able to call upon a number of experienced players for that game.

When these sides met last year Dublin had a comprehensive win over Waterford but the Déise will not want a repeat of that result. They’ll be buoyed up by that result against Cork for the visit of the All-Ireland Champions.
