Louth LGFA seek new Senior manager after Freeman departure

Louth are looking for a new Senior Ladies football manager for the 2023 campaign, following the departure of Wayne Freeman.

Freeman stepped down as manager at the end of June after a three year spell, and Louth LGFA have announced on their website that they are already seeking applications for his successor.

The closing date for applications has been set for Friday the 15th of July, with the County Board saying interviews are likely to be held the following week.

Taking over after Louth’s All-Ireland success in 2019, he became the youngest person to ever take the role. Freeman oversaw the team’s promotion from Division 4 and then maintained Division 3 status this year with the Wee County.

Louth also made consecutive Quarter finals in the intermediate championship while the Kildare man was in charge. Freeman resigned at the end of June in a letter to Louth LGFA Chairman Liam O’Neill, and thanked the county board for their support.

“I would like to thank the county board, firstly for giving me the opportunity to manage Louth and for the support they provided over the years,” Freeman wrote.

Freeman, who was just 25 when he took on the role, called the experience a “privilege and honour”, and pointed to the Division 4 promotion as a highlight.

The resignation comes off the back of Louth’s recent Quarter-final defeat to Roscommon, where they were defeated by seven points. Four days later on June 30th, Freeman announced he was stepping down.

His time in charge has been appraised by the county board, stabilising the team through the difficulties of Covid-19 which impacted Freeman’s team preparations. O’Neill acknowledged the job he did and thanked him for his efforts.

“I on behalf of the Co. Board would like to thank Wayne and his backroom team. There will always be a big Louth welcome for them all in and around the county on any occasion they may visit,” said O’Neill.
