D3 Playoff – Rice ensures Louth retain D3 status

Two opening half goals from Niamh Rice laid the foundations for a 2-7 to 0-5 win over Wicklow, as Louth retained their Division 3 status for next year. Wicklow will now play in Division 4.

Wicklow started brightly and kicked over the opening two points. Despite enjoying possession in the first 20 minutes they failed to convert their chances. They won a number of frees but failed to convert them. 

Louth got off the mark in the 20th minute when Katie Flood kicked over a free. In the final four minutes of the first half Rice scored 2-1 to give the Wee County a 2-2 to 0-3 lead going in at the break.

Wicklow kicked three wides in the opening minutes of the second half. Substitute Meadbh Deeney came on and kicked over two frees. Despite those kicks Wicklow trailed by six points and their afternoon got worse in the 45th minute when Sinead McGettigan was sin binned for a foul on Ceire Nolan.

Rebecca Carr, Laura Collins and Rice added on further points for Louth as they ran out winners by eight points.
