Ireland v Canada Preview & Avenir Cup Final Roundup

It’s all about Canada this episode as the Girls in Green prepare to take on the Olympic Champions and give themselves a chance of progression to the last 16 at the World Cup.

Breifne and Aaron preview the Irish girls chances in their crunch clash against one of the best sides in the world as well as taking a look at some of the big news stories coming out of Australia and New Zealand in recent days.

They also cast their eye back over Galway United’s historic victory in the inaugural Avenir Cup Final.

Women’s World Cup & Avenir Cup Final Preview

Breifne check in with our roving reporter Aaron Clarke who’s in Brisbane near the Irish camp as Ireland prepare to face Canada in a crunch clash in the Women’s World Cup.

The lads will look back at the Australia defeat and discuss some of the fall out from the game in terms of the coverage, some of the individual performances and what Ireland might need to change ahead of the Canadian game considering the OIympic Champions draw with Nigeria this morning.

FinalWhistle’s Diarmuid Kearney will also be previewing the USA’s opening game in the early hours or tomorrow as they face Vietnam at 2:00 am (Irish Time)

Ireland v Australia Preview, Heather Payne & Lucy Quinn

It’s all about the World Cup this week on our first proper World Cup show as Aaron and Breifne talk through the Ireland squad’s chances of pulliing off an upset against the hosts in front of 75,000 people in a packed Stadium Australia in less than 24 hours.

Aaron in Sydney discusses the final press conference and the mood in the city and around the Irish camp ahead of the momentous and historic game tomorrow evening.

The show hears from Heather Payne and Lucy Quinn, recorded prior to their departure down under a week ago.

The lads finally discuss the Avenir Cup Final which takes place on Sunday afternoon between Galway United and Cliftonville in the Showgrounds.

Phil Trill (Galway United) & Avenir Cup

Fresh from their penalty shootout win over Wexford Youths on Saturday Galway United Manager Phil Trill joins the show to discuss their maiden season in the league, how things are versus the pre season expectations and the excitement ahead of the Avenir Cup Final.

We’ll get into the origins of the team out of the embers Galway WFC, his own progression through the game and the complete pathway now for young female players in the west from their local clubs to emulating Galway’s Niamh Fahey or Heather Payne at a World Cup in the future.

Breifne and Aaron will also take a look back at the other semi final where Cliftonville progressed to meet Galway and the small matter of the upcoming World Cup comes into sharp focus.

World Cup Squad, Tommy Hewitt, Wexford FC Merger & Kerry FC Arrival

With the announcement of Ireland’s squad for the World Cup, we’ll be going through the selections and what it means for our chances this summer as well as the regular look at the Avenir Sports All Island Cup final group games this weekend.

The main guest this week is last season’s Manager of the Year, Tommy Hewitt, who joins just a week after his departure from Athlone Town. He’ll be discussing the season and his departure from the club.

We’re joined by Alan Browne, the chairperson of Wexford Youths WFC, after the announcement of their merger with Wexford FC which comes into effect from next season. He’ll be discussing the origins of and hopes for the joining of the two model county clubs.

Finally we’ll hear from Damian Locke, the Head of Academy for Kerry FC will be dropping in to chat about the arrival of women’s football in the club with the news they and Mayo will be joining the U17 Women’s league from next season.

Avenir Cup & Zambia Preview

It’s a big night for Irish Women’s Soccer as the Women’s National Team prepare for their World Cup debut in four weeks with the visit of Zambia to Tallaght Stadium this evening.

Breifne Earley and Aaron Clarke take a look at the game, some of the big decision to be made ahead of the final squad selection next week and what this might mean for some of the Irish based players under the microscope.

The boys also discuss some of the big news of the week across the league with the first round of the Avenir Sports Cup, the departure of last season’s manager of the year, Tommy Hewitt, from Athlone Town, the rebranding of Wexford Youths to Wexford FC for next season and plenty more.

Kate Mooney (Peamount United)

This week the League’s Top Scorer Kate Mooney drops in to talk all about that hat trick ten days ago, and taking all three points from Tallaght at the weekend. She’ll be chatting about her move across the city at the start of the season, settling in to PRL Park, the club’s table topping exploits this season and her personal ambitions for the rest of the year.

Breifne Earley and Aaron Clarke will also be chatting about the Irish Extended World Cup Squad, the Avenir Sports All Island Cup, the departure of Stephen Quinn from Wexford Youths and plenty more.

Megan Smyth Lynch (Shelbourne)

One day ahead of the Irish squad selection and with the news of Ireland’s two World Cup warm up games selling out Tallaght Stadium we’ll be focusing on Ireland’s potential squad and who’s likely to be on the plane to Australia.

Other topics up for discussion include the late call up for Sion Swifts who will take part in the Avenir Sports All Island Cup as well as the FAI Cup draws which took place this week with 14 teams knowing their first opponents in this years competition.

We’ll hear from Megan Smyth Lynch on the FAI Cup Draw made this week.

Breifne and Aaron will also be looking back at a busy weekend in the LOI Women’s Premier Division and this weekend’s fixtures.

Laurie Ryan (Athlone Town) & Chloe Moloney (Peamount United)

This week we’re featuring two of the dual stars in the league as rivals Chloe Moloney of Peamount United and Athlone Town captain Laurie Ryan join forces to seal a Munster Intermediate Championship win for their native Clare.

Both girls spoke after the gaelic football game to our reporter Diarmuid Kearney about their respective LOIWomen’s victories less than 24 hours previous as the Pea’s gave their title challlenge a massive boost with victory in Tolka Park and the Midlanders were in seventh heaven with their win over Treaty United.

Breifne & Aaron will take a look back at the weekend that was as well including Cork’s fantastic share of the spoils in Wexford last night and previewing the penultimate round of games before the new look Avenir Sports All Island Cup later this month.

Laura Heffernan (DLR Waves)

Just 24 hours after being announced as the new DLR Waves manager Laura Heffernan drops into the show to discuss her appointment, replacing Graham Kelly, being back in charge in the Women’s Premier Division and flying the flag for female coaches once again.

The League winner during her time at Wexford Youths will also be discussing her time with the U19’s in the club and where the club are hoping to go into the future.

Breifne Earley and Aaron Clarke will also be chatting through last weekend’s action and the fixtures up for decision this week including the top of the table traditional clash of Shelbourne and Peamount at Tolka with a potential top spot on offer for the victors.
