Becky Cassin (Irish Abroad) – LOIWomen’s Podcast

With the explosion of players who’ve either moved from the LOIWomen to play in professional leagues abroad and those who have expressed and interest or declared for Ireland in recent years we’ve decided to add a second weekly episode to the podcast looking at the impact Irish players are having in other leagues around the world.

First up, given the week that’s in it for Spain is our sole representative in the Spanish Leagues, former Cork City captain Becky Cassin who has signed for second tier challengers Cacereno. A city side based half way between both Iberian capital cities of Madrid and Lisbon.

The club’s women’s side challenged for promotion last year and made the playoffs and Cassin is aiming on being an extra cog in the wheel for a promotion push this season.

After the departure of Tyler Toland from Levante, Cassin is the sole Irish representative expected to play in the league this season as she finds herself at the club after periods in both France and Denmark since her departure from Cork at the end of 2021.

She joins Breifne Earley and Aaron Clarke (The WNL Show) ahead of the World Cup Final to discuss her move, how she’s ended up in Spain, the practical reality of life as a professional athlete in a foreign country without much of the local lingo.

Becky also chats about her new club, the standards being set and their promotion chasing ambitions for this season.

Each week Breifne & Aaron will be joined by a different player from around the globe and you can track each of those players on FinalWhistle.ie at https://www.finalwhistle.ie/soccer/irish-womens-players-abroad/

Rachel Graham (Shelbourne) – Season 3 Episode 26

Rachel also chatted about the merger between Raheny United and Shels and the differences between the two setups, going back to her early days playing in the DWSL in St. Anne’s Park in her teen’s, carrying and putting up the nets before games, all alien activities to the next generation of League of Ireland Women’s players.

Breifne Earley and Aaron Clarke (The WNL Show) also take a look at the restarting Women’s Premier Division which comes back into play on Saturday with a full round of fixtures as the final stages of the title race come into play.
